Dare we say it? Of course, RUN BENNY RUN!

Of course, TM. :rofl I'll definitely be saying it at the game!

Agree with this Dyer, I wonder what it would do for his belief system if C Ellis was elevated before him...

I think he'll deal with it, tt74. I don't think this new ruggedness is just about the odd hard ball. This is about adulthood.

There were a lot of people saying he was soft last year which to me was very unfair.

18-19 year olds come in to the system and suddenly find themselves massively mismatched physically. Lennon was finding himself just brushed out of contests and he seemed to lose confidence because of it. Imo it wasn't being soft, he just couldn't match the physicality around him.

From what I have seen he has a much stronger body this year and I think we will see a more confident player at AFL level. To me he and Kamdyn M are going to be a big part of our future midfield as the big bodied mids.

There's no doubt in my mind that the increased ruggedness in his attack on the contest is based on his increased body mass, Sin. I think it's very unusual that he's grown into it so quickly.

I'm casting around in my own mind because I know this is an indicator of something else - what?

*smile*. It's will. The kid has the will.

But he's still in the magoos so he hasn't got it right yet. If he can get it right this year (I've got that 51/49 likely) he can go quantum IMO and along with the other youth, established - Martin, Ellis, Miles, and emerging - Griffiths, Astbury, McIntosh, Lloyd, perhaps C. Ellis, can take us somewhere this year.

Last season I'd have thought it pretty unlikely that he'd make a mid, maybe a HBF or at a pinch HFF. But just on what I've seen of him this year it wouldn't surprise me. I'm still not sure of his role but I have a feeling that he's going to be an elite player.

As such I think they are doing the right thing development wise with Lennon.

I'm ok with it too, 17.

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

He certainly has bulked up which is important but what will be tested at AFL level is how much his endurance has improved.
If he's selected, I won't be surprised if he gets subbed out his first game up.
Been a while since he's played seniors.

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

To me he is everything we lack on the flanks bar the pace.

Class, kicking skills, great over head and a great ground game. Long way to go but I would much prefer Lennon in the Newman role.

Everything we need in our front half. Needs a pacey flanker next to him. I do worry about Lennon, Lloyd and Gordon in the same front half, we re a little one paced.

But I would sacrifice a bit of pace for a tone of class and a future.

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

hope to see Ben come in this week and hopefully stay in the side for the majority of the season, just think its a waste when you have got a kid like ben who has all the tools of being a great player and is in form in the 2s but yet we keep playing Newman every week, if we are going to be condensers over the next couple of years we need to get games in Ben, Matt M, & Corey Ellis (when fit).

If Lennon came in last week and had 18 touches + 2 goals, would you be calling to drop him?

I want him in the side too, but what is more important is picking the team on performance. When he does get selected, it'll be because he can out-perform Chris Newman, not be selected on the basis of age.

If performance was the criteria, Newman would have been dropped a long time ago. He had a solid game and of course won't be dropped for the next game but I think this being selected on 'performance' is a bit overplayed. There's obviously a lot of different criteria used, not just performance.

Lennon needs to play a bit better in the VFL before a call up.

What a load of crock. Dont tell me bring in Thomas. If Newman can waltz into the side without any Nab games cant see why Lennon can't get a call up on good exposed form in the VFL.

What I always find interesting is how so many former players hold Newy in such high regard. Brown was singing his praises on Saturday night in commentary as well.

These are guys who have played against him.

I think he is just about done as well but he was pretty good against the lions and should stay in the team. I do expect him to get under a lot of pressure to hold his spot during the season however.

Simple, 33 y.o vereran and former captain with 254 AFL games vs a 20 y.o. with 7 AFL games.

Agree on all counts Sin

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

Would play Lennon this week either to replace Knights or better still Morris or Batchelor. There turnovers will bite us sooner rather than lte

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

In my view both McDono & Lennon should play this week

Knights & Morris out

Will not happen though

I would play him at HB in Batchelors spot. We need quality disposal from the back half.

Not bad at all, ToO.

Lennon could well be the equal of Batch in the intercept marking stakes. But with more polish and less brain fades.

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

I have not seen Lennon play this year, has he improved his tank to a level that won't get exposed?

Last year you could tell he couldn't cover the ground to AFL standard?

Exactly Carts. Batchelor is an untidy footballer. Chaplin switched now Astbury is back puts Jake on the outer again.
We also need another option to Houli who can feed the forwards as no doubt Bachar will be targeted by Roos. Quality disposal to our leading forwards will be crucial tomorrow night. Must hit targets with precision. Lennon can do that.

Agree on all fronts but have to say I love the fact that Batch has a nasty streak which we need, loved the way he played the last nine rounds last year. Very Tough stuff
