Ben Lennon

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

Yep, certain in for me. If Lids is fit, drop Batch and play Lennon at half-back. If not, half-forward.

I think he's perfect to bring in this week. Was impressed with what I saw against Coburg on the weekend.
Great physical change in 18 months

or better yet we drop newman rather than batch

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

Obvious replacement for Knights , well that's if Lids isn't available

yeah this is what I took away from the VFL.

he stood strong in a couple of tough overhead grabs.

real good signs.

like I said on the VFL thread, has shades of the chimp.

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

It's just an illusion TOO everyone knows we're hopeless at developing our kids .

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

Looking like Lids still out for a bit n with Knights out long term there's an obvious hole for the Beatle to crawl into n make himself comfortable.

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

#35 has to play against the Demons.
Would like to see him be told he is assured of a game for the next few or so weeks to aid his confidence and get him settled into the team.

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

This bloke is interesting. He can play. That's clear. Glamour skills too.

I thought he was chronically soft but that's not right. He can play rugged. Tough. But not always. I've come around to the idea that he'll mature into an inside player. Or at least into having plenty of inside game.

He just doesn't run enough. Partly that's inexperience. He doesn't think he has to and to some extent he can't yet. I think he'll cultivate a very healthy ego and probably excel. He's an unusual package, only 19yo. As soon as he gets busy he has to play. I hope that's soon.

He's younger than our 2015 comers Griffiths, Lloyd, Vlastuin, and McIntosh. But his junior Corey Ellis will be in the seniors soon enough. Lennon's young but he can do it this year. He can be another emerging star who establishes himself in the seniors. But he has to run more.

Agree with this Dyer, I wonder what it would do for his belief system if C Ellis was elevated before him...

There were a lot of people saying he was soft last year which to me was very unfair.

18-19 year olds come in to the system and suddenly find themselves massively mismatched physically. Lennon was finding himself just brushed out of contests and he seemed to lose confidence because of it. Imo it wasn't being soft, he just couldn't match the physicality around him.

From what I have seen he has a much stronger body this year and I think we will see a more confident player at AFL level. To me he and Kamdyn M are going to be a big part of our future midfield as the big bodied mids.

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

Bulked nicely, he's taller than I though it would be good if he ends up as a midfielder.

I don't think it would really do a whole lot to it. Lennon's already played senior football last year. After being named among the best in the Magoos and not being elevated when there's a spot may cheese him off, though. Of course if Grimes is passed fit they'll probably put him straight back in for Knights. That's largely how Hardwick's Richmond play it, conservatively.

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

He physically looks and plays like Sean Higgins.
Which is not a bad thing per se - rather have the skill set than not, but there are other aspects of AFL that Lennon needs to get his mind around.
I assume the back-line apprenticeship is to teach him the responsibility of minding a man, coping with the pressure that making mistakes in your defensive 50 can be costly, and attempting to tease out his inner mongrel.
As such I think they are doing the right thing development wise with Lennon.
