Ben Lennon

Lennon should be given time to see wether game consistency can lift his workrate. We are looking for a 3rd medium forward who is good above his head. The whole Lennon v Lloyd debate will be null & void when Shai Bolton comes on line, because he has the whole package!

thats what I reckon too tails. these other blokes are just keeping the flank warm for $hai, in about round 10.

I keep hearing Lloyd is underperforming in the VFL on one hand and on the other that he had 26 possessions? Both can't be true, make your minds up people!

Lloyd's main strength is his goal sense, and kicking for goal. He's dangerous because he can make a lot out of little possessions. On the weekend, he made nothing out of a lot of possessions. He turned the ball over, burned his team mates, and made poor decisions.

I don't know whether it's confidence, or form, or what, but he doesn't look great at the moment. Hopefully he recovers his mojo, and pushes any AFL under performers out. Forget his disposals, he isn't doing that yet.

As far as I'm concerned, you pick your best 22 with the intent of picking the side most able to win the game based on their form. If it's a toss up between two players who aren't showing you anything, go with the kid who could benefit from more time at the level.

The best game I saw Lennon play, was in a quagmire.

when it p!ssed down saturday, I thought, here is his chance. It slows the game right down to his pace.

but nuh. he wadded about and fell over a few times.

I dont think hes good enough for AFL footy.

interesting story on Sam mitchell in the Age today.

a bit about being slow, but quick.

he comes last in a 20m straight sprint, but first over the same distance when weaving in and out of cones.

he said Im slow, but quick.

Lennon is slow, and slow.

Summed it up well et.

yeah. How long does he get? He might be trying hard, but it doesn't give us much. Bobbling most marks he should be taking for the type he is meant to be, that moment in the last Q, full pressure cooker, starts arguing with the umps which allowed WC to get an easy takeaway, I hated that.

I'd stick him in the seconds and tag 'use only in emergency' if it was up to me. An out of form Lloyd gives us more.

Draft 'combine' results had him in the bottom 20% over first 5 m of 20 m sprints. This includes ruckmen.

Tragically.... he was in the bottom 5% for agility. This also includes ruckmen.

So yep, slow & slower.

Bottom 25% in the 3km. Disappointing.

Bottom 10% in standing vertical jump. Hmmmmm

Really needs to get his mark~kick~goal game going. Oversized forward pocket at the moment.

Hopefully he's a slow burner...

Oh God.

The midfield experiment for lloyd is not working. He's a forward and only a forward

The worrying thing for Ben is that once the Baron starts assigning the "talented" tag to players they tend to go the way of McBean and McDonuts. ie. the SANFL.

I agree. Get far more out of him getting 15 possessions around goal than you do with 26 away from goal.

Lennon should be given this week but another poor performance and he should be dropped for the Melbourne game.

I'm not really sure what AFL traits he's really got other than can be a good kick. He's not a good tackler, he's insanely slow, isn't showing these great hands he supposedly has (I remember 1 game against Essendon where he showed this but nothing in the other games) and he has very little intensity. Will make it easy for the Melbourne defenders. If he doesn't kick at least 2 against Brisbane, then move aside for Lloyd, Markov, Chol or Seymour. I'd love to see Seymour step it up in the VFL early this season.

Lennon has a few advantages as a footballer. Maybe not enough to save him but a few.

He is close to our best field kick. Reliably incisive by foot. His goal kicking would be good if he could breathe after all the effort it takes him to get a shot. When he's composed he can use like few others.

He has clean hands. They're letting us down at the moment because he knows how slow he is and that they'll be all over him in a nanosecond. Separation is a dream for him. Panic the reality.

Oh, he can't jump ether. No separation there.

He is physically strong at ground level. He can take a hit. And theoretically dish em out. He doesn't do anywhere near enough of this.

Ben Lennon knows better than anybody else that his lack of athleticism is killing him. That's why he panics when the ball comes to him. What he has to do is become much more inside. And he probably has to learn that under Fly.

He's got to learn to work closer to contact. The inside game. If he can push a few blokes around he'll give himself a chance. Knock a few over.

His most meaningful advantage is the one he lacked during his deluded vibrant days - Ben Lennon is now fully aware of the awful truth. I admire that.

If it's wet in brissy this weekend - bring in Lloyd. Is usually clean in the wet. Remember the game against the cats in the wet at the G and he was excellent... he also nearly always makes the most of his chances around goal.

A long long time ago I was the best kick in my Junior Team.
But I rarely got a game, because I couldn't get the ball.

Heh heh. Ball-Winning Ability is still the main talent, poppa.

BTW if Ben Lennon couldn't kick he wouldn't be on an AFL list.

After watching the game a couple of times I get the feeling that Ben is not far off the pace. If anything he is trying too hard at the moment. He obviously has talent but he needs a decent block of time to find his niche in the firsts. I'm still confident that he will play some good footy for us.
