This. He's being instructed to apply constant defensive pressure and is sacrificing his offensive game. Hardwick is the worst coach for him. Some of his defensive pressure was quite good but overall he doesn't have the pace to be great defensively and as a result was quite poor. He'd be more effective as an offensive weapon with his leading marking and kicking but he spent the game chasing arse.
Perhaps his offensive game ie forward work, was not good enough? Players who look like they are chasing arse all day are being beaten to the ball. So we look for these indicators...Did he present as an option making good leads that were ignored? Was he beaten in 1-on-1 contests and therefore forced to chase his more skilled opponents? I don't remember his individual efforts but they will have been reviewed by Leppa earlier this week and we look for more impact from him in the next couple of games, presuming he's selected.

*smile*. What are Lloyd and Riewoldt?

Surprised you can't see his weaknesses Harry.

I can and have mentioned them a few times.

Look massive doubts on him myself but feel we are not trying to utilise his strengths as best we can

Not writing him off yet after 1 practice match. The thing I noticed last week with a more mobile forward line with Lloyd Rioli Butler Caddy Martin Edwards & Lennon all rotating through there we were so less predictable & not everyone is going to have nights out. But he obviously needs to get more involved or he will be at the end of that queue fighting for a spot come round 1

His strengths are not that great, He is a lead up foward thats slow and cant get seperation on a defender

he is not overly tall and a player like Grimes will be on his ass every step of the way and is taller so can spoil easily

He has terrible agility and cant out position his opponent

You look at his game and have to ask yourself how he can win a contest

Id be trying to get Lennon to play a Crameri or Stringer, Gunston or McGovern

maybe you should be 'silk purse coach'?

we could really use one of those.

You could recast Taylor Hunt in a Luke Hodge or a Joel Selwood role too?

Ha ha ha i think you got me pegged wrong Big Easy, check my avatar no rose coloureds here.

If he cant fit in to the side in a role then he does'nt play.

still, a silk purse-type role would be great for Tigerland.

I've got rose coloured tiger-goggles an inch thick. But I have grave concerns for Ben's ability and application.

I hope im wrong.

Intelligent forward play can't be taught.
I believe Lennon is an intelligent forward.
The coaching staff should let him play his game.
Who cares if his opponent runs off him once or twice whilst Lennon scores/assists in seven or eight Tiger goals! The coaching staff needs to be looking at his net output, that is positives less negatives.
Remember, you can't coach against clever, street wise forwards!
Look at Eddie Betts.
I know they're different players but it's his smarts and cunningness that gets the job done.

LET HIM PLAY HIS WAY THEN WE'LL ASSESS IF HIS POSITIVES OUTWEIGH HIS NEGATIVES!

The Lennon lorry had a bit of a spluttering start but it's had a quick tune up this week. With 100 litres of vibrancy in the tank it's looking forward to rolling into Mt Gambier this weekend

Get on board

It's not once or twice, it's dozens of times.

Let's see if it doesn't lose itself on the Princes Highway.

Thought we weren't gifting games to players this pre season?
I don't like to defend Lennon in anyway, however the fact he kicked 4 in the intraclub probably means he deserves 2 weeks in the BLT. Watched the game against the Crows a couple of times, he was straight out woeful in that, been outmarked by the aerialist Richie Douglas was the highlight for me.

He failed when he was giving his all. But at least he was giving so he gets a reprieve. Let's see, Mr Chips.
