Ben Lennon

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

loves a grab and not afraid to tackle either. :fing32

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

Nice game from Ben, was even better watching the replay.

Watching Dusty, Conca, Brando, Vlaus (pre injury) and now Lennon we have a really good solid core of players. What we need now is some excitement. We really need to find a kid who can light things up.

Love the Goddard comparison Juff, good call.
Reminds me of Gunston of Hawthorn. Great overhead, excellent kick, and a real good football brain.

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

Agree with the Goddard comparison. If he can get a tank with those kicking skills look out.

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

I thought his first few touches were classy but then faded and actually turned a few over so in the end I didn't rate his performance.

Future looks bright though.

Geez. One n a half games in n didn't rate his performance. Kid doesn't yet have a tank or experience under elite pressure conditions so errors are always going to be made the longer a game goes on.

Kids got timing, vision, balance, skill n best of all, enough belief that he should be out there that he'll trust himself to take the game on. Couple of seasons n he'll be the smooth n shiny polish that goes on the grunt work of Conca, Ellis n Flossy.

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

Lets forget the midfield stuff and let young Ben just do what we recruited him for ..... an elite 3rd forward who kicks 60 goals a year.

every decent player under 190 ends up in the middle these days.

Whats more handy? a mid who averages 25 poss and a goal a game, or a HFF who averages 18 poss and 2 goals a game?

At our stage of development and inside 50's:goals ratio, I'd suggest the latter option.

Bloody hell Golly. Not sure if you've noticed lately but most of the key forwards are struggling to kick 60 goals a year these days, never mind the bloody flankers taking over the Coleman.
Apart from the ruck n a couple of KPP spots just about every player on club lists is some kind of mobile forward or back with the capacity to take a stint in the midfield.
Dusty, Cotch, Lids, Conca, Ellis, Flossy, Grigg, Lennon, Houli, etc. etc. all required to play an area with the capacity to contest in the middle at times plus sneak forward and kick goals. Even Jaaack was seen down the half back line having a bludge between goal kicking highlights.

Hahaha :rofl .... You gotta laugh, there's always one. But I gotta say I can see where you are coming from GEDS, after all he had already played one game (well half a game) he should have had it together, not like it was his first game or anything :-\

If he's still doing this after a couple of pre seasons then we may have a problem, but at this stage it all looks very promising and those two goals he had a hand in early were solid gold.

My post was in reference to his weekend game and not where he's come from, how long he's been in the game or discounting for any other reason. He looks the goods and will be a good player but some were raving about his game on the weekend and I saw it otherwise and didnt't rate it apart from some early excellent field kicking. The lad is a keeper and will be very good when seasoned.

yeah I know. But I still reckon dimma should say to passionfruit icing "hey passionfruit icing, stay in the 50 arc, use your party tricks and kick a heap of goals son" Its what stevie J, cyril rioli, nathan brown and gablett jr all did for 5 years pre-mid.

Agree Golly, I reckon we should play him how Carlton are playing Menzel (less of a focal point though)

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

Only thing that worries me is he was almost (hospital) cleaned up 3 times last game because he didn't rush his disposal . Either he is a genuine tough young man or the pace of the game is an issue at first.

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

Will adjust to the pace, will get a tank and run games out. Another solid first pick that with all fingers crossed, will click in a good team.

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

Watched a replay last night. This guy set up the first two goals with nothing but class...elite foot pass both times.

Reckon the sub role suits him every second week while he builds up the tank the other week but we have a beauty here. IMO more elite qualitiees than Ellis and Conca.

Re: Welcome to tiger land Ben Lennon

yep, he showed he has the rare ability to land a ball 50m away in a hula hoop space. under pressure.

This kids gonna be jacks best mate for the next 10 years.

Yeah, the disposal was really nice.

Pace adjustment is always an issue for newbies stepping up.
Think the prime word here is " almost " quality plays the game with composure n time n space. If Beatlemania is first up holding n finding his options instead of simply getting a disposal n hoping then woo hoo, glory be, there's silk in that jumper.
