Ben Lennon

I'd prefer to keep Lennon over an average pick. He has AFL traits in his game. Strong mark, good goal sense, one of the best kicks at the club and generally good decision maker with ball.

Then again, this was under the perception we'd sack Hardwick. Under him I don't see Lennon playing good football. A kid can't adjust to the speed, tempo and gain confidence by playing 1 game then out, etc.

Hardwick can't develop kids, many probably deep down aren't fans of him for his treatment of them. Looking forward to seeing regular doses of the likes of Townsend, Morris, etc next year instead if talented kids.

What ever happened to the midfield bull Townsend.
He makes Bisscombe, farmer, Thomson and Fleming look like Williams.
Townsend you can't get angry, it makes you laugh how *smile* he is.
I'm shocked where not after his twin in Steele

*smile* couldn't develop a forward even his life depended on it.

Development not the issue. Recruiting wrong types the key. Players who can kick but lack intensity, physicality, speed and willingness for the contest not suited to the modern game. Perhaps an alternative development pathway utilising the principles of alchemy can be used to transform Lennon into an intense physical beast that moves like a gazelle with no sense of entitlement simply working hard for the benefit of the team. If not....punt!

Can only get something decent if other Clubs are interested. Seems a massive wave of indifference to Ben at the moment. Haven't heard of any clubs queuing up to get him to their Club

Only takes one club to be interested , hopefully a Sydney or GC can be involved. Has some talent this bloke, I've just always thought he lacks a yard and a bit of toughness to make the grade, in saying that he may bite us in the ass, but I'd rather move him on for a pick around 30

He played really well late last season and people were up in arms 'cos we might trade him to Carlton. Now we are up in arms cos he can't play and we have wasted another first round draft pick. Same for Conca and Ellis and Vickery. The fault is not in drafting the wrong players the problem is in their development - plain and simple. The club has paid squillions for the Ernst & Young review of the club and it's obvious that they are as useless as the people running the club. Blind Freddie can see that IT IS THE COACH ........... F€£*^%#*k - it just cannot be that hard.

The problem with Lennon that he is too slow to play as a flanker, so then you'd look to play him as an inside mid. But he is also slow to dispose of the footy, so he'd be ineffective in tight as well. Doesn't leave a lot of positions to play, maybe try and play as a CHF? He would need to seriously improve his workrate to play there though. What's his character like, will he do everything he can to make it?

Reckon I’m like Tom Hanks in Castaway on this bloke.

Alone on on a island, Lennon Island. Don’t think I’ve seen a player managed worse.

If I was at another club, I’d be diving in to get him for a late second. Hoping he stays.

The problem Lennon has is the same problem Beanie had. Hardwick - his suspicion of forwards and youth and the development vacuum.

So much angst. Ben worked his way into the side in 2015, got a rising star nomination late in the season, many thought he was unlucky to be dropped for the elimination final. Cops a bout of glandular fever in the 2016 pre-season, anyone whose had it knows how much that sets you back. Would have severely interrupted his pre season and therefore his fitness base. Cops two bouts of concussion early in the season, misses weeks. Comes back, does an AC joint, misses 6 weeks. Comes back, does an ankle, misses more weeks. Comes back, gets a senior run, is clearly not match fit and is sent back to the twos for the rest of the year. Bad decision? Everyone knows that poor fitness is going to increase the risk of injury. And the crash and bash of senior footy is going to increase that risk again. He had no continuity all year.

Ben is immature and full of himself. Not uncommon for 20 yr old males. He might not be mature enough yet to understand why he hasn't progressed the way he expected to, therefore thinks a change of club is what he needs. It's not fair to judge him on this season, and he showed good signs last year. Not every champion is a speedster. Hard work, good skills and smarts go a long way. He already has the two that can't be taught. The hard work part can. And maybe, just maybe we're bringing in a bunch of effective assistants this season who'll be able to help him understand the work ethic required. For young players like Ben, it's the assistants that will make him or not. We're all whinging about the lack of development at the club. We're bringing in people to address that. Ben Rutten, Blake Caracella, Justin Leppitsch all have runs on the board as good, effective and successful assistants. And more are still to come.

I hope Ben stays. He needs a mentor.

^^^^^ I couldn't agree more with the above Post

He does have weaknesses but Ben has some really good traits as an AFL player and he has to be able to play to those strengths. He has excellent hands above his head on the lead, very good goal sense and kicks the ball really well.
What he can't do is be left alone as the sole target one on one on the break because he lacks the pace and mobility.
In a side that moves the ball reasonably quickly where he can run towards the ball carrier and play the link forward he can be very effective. This is the role he played in the 2nd half of 2015. His best footy was when we played 2 talls in Riewoldt and Griffiths and he was playing the link half forward and the other 3 forwards were Lids and 2 crumbing players. That's a nicely balanced forward line imo.
We can't play 3 talls and Ben Lennon because he lacks mobility and speed.
I am ambivalent to him leaving. Unless we get a decent pick (<35-40 ) I wouldn't be too upset if he stays

Same here. I think he could be a better version of Azza Edwards, maybe higher up the ground if he gets a better tank.

Change of mind? This bloke's a perfect example of a FIGJAM which we can do better without.
