I put this post up last year about average games played by what number the player was drafted FWIW:

Yep....the curse of pick 6.

On the other hand, pick 13 is (ironically) charmed. Hello Jack Riewoldt.

I'd prefer to see finals played over games played.
Even then it's not about talent.

Martin pike won 4 flags.
Did he have Ablet's genius? NO.
He fitted in, worked hard and did what Leigh Matthews asked.

Martin Pike was a very very underrated footballer.

The fact that he wasn't particularly sharp and didn't impress off field hid teh fact he was a sensational footballer.

Every club that got him, got him for unders.

Nice work Panthera. As the years go by and the sample size gets bigger and the data gathering and crunching gets more exhaustive, the trend will get clearer and clearer. Stars taken after the second round, pick 30 even, will go the way of the dodo.

The interesting thing about this is picks 10 to 20. Average of 60 to 100 games barring one.

Means that our pick should be treated as tradable imo.

Interesting to note that Ben claims on social media that his best mates are Matty McDonuts, McJesus and McIntosh. Cant imagine he'd not want to play in a Richmond team that features Beano and McIntosh next year.

This chart willl be interesting for average coaches votes in 20-30 years time or even better some unbiased measure of output across the whole list that accounts for quality as well as for longevity. Some type of Points per b and f position times games for completed careers would be ok but won't normalize for how good or bad a club is. With that said the simple games list above tells the main story. My point is 250 delidio games >>> 250 Jackson games.

Nice graph PT. Looks like pick 40 is a good investment.

This is consistent with what i was told by someone very close to a Richmond player last week. The message I got was that both sides wanted to reach a deal and would be surprised if they don't

Well fox sports news just reporting that Carlton will be looking for Ben Lennon in a straight swap for Yarran . So rumor is getting stronger .

PICK 124 - absolutely the pick to go for - the 4th highest games average! ;D
The Table looks a bit suspect. At 105 it says 15 yet Chris Grant was picked there around 1990 and he played over 350 games. There would only have been 3 or 4 picks 105 taken.

The two bits there that make it highly questionable are "rumour" and "fox news"

Guess we just wait and see , wouldn't suprised if he's being offered overs by Carlton and a longer contract .

Reckon you might find that Chris Grant played almost all the games available to a pick 105 over the last twenty five years, hence the average being fifteen games per year. Chris didn't quite play 375 games so someone else must have managed a couple of games n skewed the figures a bit.
