Ben Lennon

Silvagni has been massively into Lennon all year. Carlton has offered him twice the amount as RFC, so now we are scurrying to try to keep him with a longer contract.

Lennon was massively upset at being dropped for the final (rightly so if you ask me - Geez what a dumb decision!).

This is from a very good source (this afternoon), which I can't divulge.

Different people with very good sources all saying different things.

They don't call it the silly season for nothing ;D

If we lose Lennon to Carlton it would be an epic fail for Richo and Dimma.

i think a lot of us were massively upset ben was dropped for the final...(dumbest selection i can think of in my entire football following life...50 years)

Really did not understand why Newman played this year, if Lennon played more games would he be signed up right now? looks like SOS is a better deal maker than Dan, Benny & Dimma put together. This had better play out in our favour or serious questions need to be asked.

Interesting take. The over the top love for Newman costing us Lennon?

Though there is no evidence that SOS is any good.

Well that is exactly what will have happened if we lose Lennon for lack of game time.

Lack of game time isn't what will make him walk. Dollars will determine whether he goes or stays.

Nope you don't lose players getting looked after and getting game time.

Huh? Dan has signed two All Australians up this year, and paid very fair sums for each. When pushed by Dustin, he shoved back. We'd just about have the least amount of quitting players of any other club in the comp.

SOS signed up Scully on of the biggest AFL deals of all time. Numerous first round draft picks have walked out on the club. Jed Lamb will probably see himself delisted with a year on his contract after being headhunted by SOS.

Lennon hasn't even left the club yet, but SOS is some magic deal breaker for attempting to lure a kid by overpaying him despite little exposed AFL output.

Cmon, let's not get silly here.

All valid points - The club has said our list is a mid table list - hopefully they get some deals done to improve it. SOS also got some great talent to GWS you would have to admit they did much better than GCS - right?

Not much better. SOS did marginally better in the draft, but GC were better with recruits. GC will be a top 8 team if they get their top 5 midfielders back.

serious question were asked all year as to why newman was being played....he did very little each week to justify his selection in the side

History is being rewritten already.

Lennon reminds me of Andy Collins of a few years back, massively rated by members moreso than the club perhaps.

Facts are with Collins and the sub rule the club knew he wouldn't have the tank to be any more than a half forward so moved him on.

The interchange is becoming smaller and smaller so you need to be able to play longer and multiple positions.

Lennon is
A: not quick
B: has no tank
C: not hard at it
D: not a two way runner.

paying $450 for a guy who is just a half forward, PASS thanks.

Keep him on the right contract, move him on if asking for more.

Well lets revisit this in 2 years time, I beg to differ GWS have a much better list IMHO.

Has hardly had a pre season so the tank will improve. We don't have anyone close to that size in our forward line apart from Deledio who is almost 30. One of our best kicks for goal and has great hands.

I would be giving up Conca, Griffiths or Astbury a long way before Lennon.

Agree, GWS far better placed. Suns have far inferior depth, even taking their injuries to key players into account.

Do you think we blew the pick on Lennon then?

Let's get this into perspective. he is disappointed about being dropped for the final and so he should be because he didn't deserve it and it was the wrong decision. That's hardly the first time something like that has happened. As an example 12 months ago tom Mitchell was dropped from the swans side for the finals after burning it up in weeks prior and he also was very disappointed but what he did was play even better footy this year and make it impossible to drop him. What's he going to do if brendan Bolton drops him in round 8 next year, start talking to the suns ?

The reports that he has a bigger offer and we are negotiating is pretty consistent with all " sources". If he had made up his mind to leave we would have heard that by now but he hasn't. There are plenty of players who have publicly said they are seeking a trade and he isn't one of them. One thing Dan Richo doesn't do is play these things out in the media and he is just getting on with his job and his track record suggests he may well get this done as well.

As for Silvagni and carlton. This is the club he has been Footy manager of that has lost henderson, lost Yarran and has a disillusioned Krueser. They also look like losing Tommy Bell who was one of their better players this year. It hardly takes a lot of talent to offer a 19 year old kid a lot of money when half your salary cap is gone with Judd, carazzo and all the others mentioned going.
