Been to a good gig lately/Concerts [Merged]

Re: Been to a good gig lately? [Merged]

Just home from the Ding Dong Lounge for an after-the-big-gig mash-up show of Mumford & Sons, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros and their amazing brass support band, who were the best part of the show for me - seriously rocked the house. Good fun, great energy.

Went and saw The Black Keys last night. Absolutely brilliant. They didn't play enough of their old stuff for my liking but I guess that is to be expected when the majority of people only know the few songs from their latest couple of albums.

Off to see Ben Harper acoustic gig in a couple of weeks.

Nice one Spook.

I have been into Edward Sharpe lately, It would be good to see them live. I heard the the blokes from Mumford and Sons talk about it on the radio. Sounded like good times.

Went down to the Tote on Thursday and saw Gary Clark Jr

If ever the AFL finals slogan of 'this is greatness' is to be bestowed upon somebody, this is the guy...

My turn to be jealous! Only discovered him recently and can't wait to see him play live. Geez I hope he plays a Brisbane show when he comes back out in January.

I've seen a hundred of my mates play but i never post em here. And Maybe I'm just learning what style of music I like. But Manouche is mad. And La Mauvaise Reputation is a very fine experience at Paris Cat.

Very good venue and the lead guitarist plays Django double time once in a while. Take a gehl. Book a table for maximum value.

Would have loved to have seen them at the music bowl but just could get there. Saw them at the hi fi a number of years ago. Superb.

Three I'd love to have seen recently are Emmylou Harris, Jimmy Buffett and Billy Bragg. Too much effort these days to travel to Melb and back though. Wish they gave the city a miss and had their concerts at a Day on the Green at Rochford winery instead.

Was grateful to score a ticket to Icehouse last night and they were pretty good. Iva's voice still as smooth as ever.
Took some video of a favourite track from the 'Flowers' album.

So I went and saw An Acoustic Evening with Ben Harper last Friday night. Absolutely magic. The man is freakishly talented and very humble.
Show started at about 8.40pm and Ben had about 8 different guitars, a piano, a glockenspiel and a chair on stage with him. Worked his way through most of them during the evening but not all. He told a few stories and interacted with the crowd. We were treated to some brilliant renditions of some of his finest work and also a new song or two as he swapped between electric, acoustic, piano, glockenspiel, ukelele and lap steel guitar. His 10 minute lap steel was mesmerising as was the whole concert pretty much.
After he played Burn One Down he thanked the crowd and left the stage, briefly. At this point a few people left. After much encouragment he returned to the returned to the stage and played for another hour or so, finally wrapping things up at around 11pm.
Brilliant performance and I am so glad I had the oppurtunity to attend. If you ever get the chance to go and see him in this format, do it!!

So INXS have finally called it a day.
Was good to see them live recently for one last time but they have felt like a good cover band for some time now.
Not too many bands have successfully made the transition from losing their lead singer (ACDC and ?) and it really felt like the end when Hutchence died.

The great Aussie band of the late 80's and early 90's. Just before the grunge era kicked in, INXS and U2 were the biggest bands in the world.

So a very cool gypsy folk band from Melbourne twice over the weekend called The Tiger and Me. Great musicians and well worth a look if you like folky stuff.

Agree, should have called it a day 15 years ago after Hutchence died. They were never the same band and tried to fill the frontman position several times.

AC/DC is about the only band I can think of who successfully continued to make music after losing their singer.

Neil Young and Crazy Horse are touring Australia early next year:

http://www.offtherecord.com.au/musicnews/default,id,32128.aspx

Already got A Reserve tickets for the Rod Laver Arena show.

First time he's toured with Crazy Horse as the main attraction. They came in 1985 but shared the shows with Neil's country band of the time, and they came on the Greendale tour but that wasn't a crazy horse tour as such.

And their new album Psychadelic Pill is fantastic. Best Neil Young album since Mirrorball in 1995.

I swore I'd never go to a NY concert again after the last one I went to. I saw he was doing A Day on the Green and logged on ready to book tickets only to find it's not at the winery we usually go to. Not interested in a big concert venue so am considering going to Hill Winery. Wish it was at Rochford. Might just buy Psycadelic Pill instead. Mirrorball is one of the very few NY albums I don't have or have never heard.
