Been to a good gig lately/Concerts [Merged]

Re: Been to a good gig lately? [Merged]

Black Mountain are pretty cool from what I've heard.

I saw Gary Numan once,

Many years ago, free tix from a mate working back stage,

Cant remember too much about it,

Apart from an impressive light show,

And thinking, gee this guy really wishes he was Bowie.

The band I am most looking forward to seeing. Check out their latest album, In The Future, good stuff.

I am also very happy that Brant Bjork, The Drones, Jim White and The Church are playing. All in the excellent venue that is the Supernatural Amphitheatre in Meredith.

As for Gary Numan....don't tell me you aren't up for some 80's electronica nostalgia. ;D

Re: Been to a good gig lately? [Merged]

are you dinosaurs still talking about rock music?

if you wanna see a brilliant gig, go and see sphongle on march 7 (aka raja ram and simon posford). venue is yet to be announced. they are absolutely brilliant... a sight to behold. my cousin is getting married on march 7 in port douglas, so i cant go. i'm absolutely gutted.

Shpongle are coming here???

Man, I don't usually go see bands like them (the crowds scare me :p ), but I might have to make an exception for Shpongle.

Aren't they due a new album soon?

Would be great to see Gary Numan and Steve Strange again with the new wave.........

Without doubt, Steve Kilbeys voice always sends shivers up my spine.

He is a very.....very cool man B1 that’s for sure. He proves that you don’t have to ‘over sing’ or wail and scream your guts out to get effect – even on the hardest, fastest moving songs.

He was born in England so he has a wonderfully articulated and mellow way of singing.

He’s playing with the Triffids apparently at the Day on the Green concerts.

Now that would be something to hear Red.

Last time I saw the Church was an acoustic set at the Corner in Richmond, best two or three things I have ever heard.

(maybe an accoustic Jeff Martin from The Tea Party may outdo him!!)

That's why I was always in two minds on whether this band was Aussie or British back then.

Top band in the old days and still going strong.

I was at that concert at the Corner ! How was Kilbey's 5 minute tirade at the mobile phone yuppies up the back ! ? What did he say...? Something about "Nobody gives a **** what shoes you bought today so shut the **** up."

Hah hah hah hah....

Kilbey and Wilson-Piper were both born in England. Thats why Marty has that rounded, polished accentuation as well.
Wilson-Piper now resides in Sweden. Steve lives in Rozelle in Sydney.

Peter Koppes is Australian, as is Tim Powles. Richard Ploog (founding drummer is Australian as well).

Heh heh heh…..I remember him on Countdown once in the early 80’s. Molly Meldrum was prattling on about how successful the band was and he turned to Kilbey and asked him if he was pleased with their chart success. Kilbey, in typically laconic fashion, turned to him and quietly said: “I couldn’t care less. Its not like it’s a *** football ladder or anything Molly.”

Hah hah hah hah……its weird looking back at their early days coz whilst people tried to take their popularity and pigeon hole them into this mass marketed commercial band, they always were, and still are, an alternative band that’s very anti-establishment. In fact, there’s a couple of songs on one or two albums that refer to their disdain of the recording industry in general and how it operates.

I last saw DP at the Evelyn in the mid-90s. Never a huge fan or anything, but they did have some good stuff. How time flies.
