Used To Get High is my favourite from the newer songs. He played that first.

Sorry to butt in. But just youtubed "ocean". I hadn't heard it before and only went on too see and hear it after your discussion Checkers and Disco. Absolutely fabulous, I'm gonna go through some more of his work.
Geez he can play a guitar, 12 stringer too in this clip. Are those his real fingernails (for picking) or picks?

Re: Been to a good gig lately? [Merged]

fake nails and an 11 string guitar mate. Check these ones out too.

Yep, really good. I'm still getting educated at my age. ;) Never too old to find something new to enjoy.
11 string guitar, didn't actually count them before. Is the 11 string the "plantation" version Disco?
Geez he can play and a few different techniques as well

Nah man, it's just a 12 string guitar with the 8th string taken off. A 12 string guitar, tuned the way he usually plays it is like this:

------------------ C
------------------ C (octave higher)

------------------ G
------------------ G (octave higher)

------------------ C (same as the higher C above)
------------------ C (octave higher again)

------------------ G (same as the higher G above)
------------------ G (octave higher again)

------------------ C
------------------ C (exactly the same strings)

------------------ E
------------------ E (exactly the same strings)

If you leave the 8th string on it's the highest sounding of all of them and creates some really strange notes especially in open tuning.

Most if not all guitar companies are involved in conservation of the timbers they use despite the fact the industry uses a minuscule amount of timber compared to the Japanese and US housing industries, not to mention the paper companies which rape Australia's old growth forests.

Yeah, I was bullshitting. Virtually all good guitars use 200+ year old Sitka spruce for their sound board's and Butler's guitars would be no exception (other parts of the guitar do come from plantation timbers though). I don't reckon that means he's hypocritical for being outspoken about wilderness conservation though. The guitar industry alone would make next to no impact whatsoever on these forests and is nothing compared to other industries.

And I'll bet you his strings are made from whale gut and his picks are from ivory tusk too !

(And check out what those boots he's wearing are made of too. I wouldnt mind betting there's at least a bit of lion hide in those things.)

He plays it a little differently every time. Its amazing to hear live.

A gig I wish I could go to is the Grateful Dead, sadly Jerryless, reunion in support of Borak Obama.

Went to Iron Maiden last night at Rod Laver.

Awesome gig by one of the best old metal bands in the world.
