While sticking to Skybeau theatre shows, went to Spamalot last night based on Monty Python film "The Holy Grail". Very much enjoyed it and if get a chance while in Melbourne definately worth a look especially if Monty Python fan.

I've just got home from probably the best concert I've ever seen. Guitar legend Jeff Beck at Ronnie Scott's in Soho London. I was 2 metres from the stage on the side a bit from where I had a great view. His band was just outstanding - Vinnie Colauita on drums, Jason Rebello on keys and a 21 year old lady, Tal Wilkenfeld on bass.
He played for about 1 and a half hours - beautiful slow numbers mixed with high octane complicated stuff you needed to wear a seat belt to listen to. Colauita was superhuman on drums and Tal - she looked like a kid playing at a school concert but sounded like an utter legend.
Anyway, as he went off before his first encore he said it had been a thrill for him to play in front of Jimmy Page! Up stood Jimmy, clapping Beck and waving to us all! Then when he came back out for the encore he introduced Eric Clapton who came out and did two blues songs with him. So I'm sitting there 2 metres from Beck and Clapton having this guitar duel and looking out into the audience watching Jimmy Page nodding along. Unbelievable. Beck eventually finished with a gorgeous version of Where Were You and after a long standing ovation and a longer time for me to get my breath back I got up and found that sitting one bench along from me was Brian May of Queen and Tony Iommi of Black Sabbath!! Both signed autographs for me (well I had to didn't I?) As I pushed through the crowd I literally bumped into Jimmy Page as he was leaving and said "good luck for the gig" and he turned and smiled and said "thanks!" and it was then I realised i was pushing past Jason Bonham.
What a night!

Now that we are in December its music music music! Forget that xmess crap and get on down to some of PBSFM's music week events. Check out their website.
Also i am gonna start thinking of my gigs of the year and shall post a list up. Been a big year for me cos i went to EastCoast Blues Fest at Byron and also Jazz and Heritage Fest at New Orleans! Lot to think about!

If anybody wants the presale code for V Festival 2008 (Smashing Pumpkins, Duran Duran, QOTSA, Mika (ugh), Air and, I believe, JAMC then just PM me. You can get tix Thursday before they go on sale to the great unwashed Friday (which is why so many miss out, which sucks).
I scored front row using this for the last V Festival in Melbourne (mmmmmm... Pixies!) - not that it mattered once the bands came on, of course.
