I am surprised by the lack of praise for Houli for sacrificing his game to keep Davey almost kickless until half time. Great effort by Houli!

Don't think many realised this washis role until watching Dimma's presser.
Have been impressed with Grigg and Houli the past couple of weeks.

Was a great effort to stop Davey. Frustrated the hell out of him. Also took a couple of ripper grabs. He's really turned the corner on the contested stuff. He goes when its his turn. Well done Bachar :clap

Sells more candy then Willy Wonka.

that's why he was bought to the club. We needed a candy selling lefty to replace Bowden.

Yep - impressed with the way this bloke is coming on. I also think the opposition are now starting to worry about he and Lids off HB which is great. You can't tag them all.

Why would you choose to sacrifice the game of one of our best users of the footy?

Could have been a learning tool to teach him a better defensive side to his game. He did a good job at it and we won. No big deal.

Maybe the coach thought that the Dees would try to curb his influence after his game last week so they mixed it up.
I think it's great for Houli's development that Dimma is also instilling a strong defensive aspect to his game. Will make him a much better player over the long haul.

Why wouldn't you if you thought it would better serve the team? Flexibility is very important in today's game. Davey types are the ones who have killed us in the past. I'd be glad if guys like Houli could successfully close down players in matchups if it warranted it.

If you want to be more flexible, play him more forward. Rather than have our mids bombing it long inside fifty we could use Houli's precise and penetrating kicking to enter I50 more dangerously.

ITBHO shutdown roles should be for players who don't offer much offensively. White or O'Reilly could have come in for that role on Davey.

All players in defense should have a defensive side, as others have said maybe it was a teaching exercise to reinforce that in Houli's mind, after all the defensive side of his game is the weakest.

But what if Dimmas plan is for the long term and to make him more accountable defensively? It's not as if he's doing it every week.

Sorry I don't agree. The best teams are able to count on their players taking on different roles depending on matchups. Stopping an opposition player who hurts you can have the same or better effect then that player going forward and creating opportunities. Davey killed us last time he played us, at half time he had 1 possession. A sterling job by Houli. I wouldn't expect him to pay that sort of role often but now we know he has the ability to shut a player down when we desperately need someone to.

Perfect one week, pretty ordinary the next..

Pretty silly comment, looking for attention no doubt. He's been one of our most consistent all year.

All you're doing is demonstrating your complete lack of football knowledge. And not listening.

Maybe something in that but worth noting Dimmas comment that Bachars role was to sacrifice his own game and eliminate the possibilty of a Davey return to form against us. Turned out Davey was a spud on the day.
