Bachar Houli - بشار حولي,

Geez they're pretty bitter about Houli on that Bombers forum. Apparently he is a squib with poor disposal and the reason he gets possessions is because he's on the end of the good work of other players. Also left Essendon for a weaker team so he could get a game. Funny, when he was still lineball about leaving, all the talk was about the potential he has and the lack of opportunity he'd been given.

They sound more fickle than us.

That article confirms something I have noticed about Houli, he gets a hell of a lot of marks.

Which is fantastic, because we recruited him to play an outside role and find space, and I would think that is exactly what his mark tally shows he is doing.

Yeah, I remember the posts. Furious at Knighter for not playing him, and in the space of a week he became the biggest dud who ever did dud.

Great thing with bomber fans, they are taking our rep. Going feral on talkback, unrealistic expectations, over valuing their players, and of course chucking bottles at players on the ground. Classy 8)

Amazing PSD pick up.

Gold Coast selections aside, he's arguably the recruit of the year.

Agree. Surprised there hasn't been more made of it in the media.

i reckon its because most people rated him anyway. damning for essendon really
Not sure they doubted his skills but thought he had heart issues. 12 games into his new career haven't completely put those to bed.

God forbid anyone still has a doubt on your beloved Bachar.

beloved? thats a way over the top response. sure, he's no brute but his disposals by numbers and efficiency are impressive. he goes when its his turn and is stringing games together while playing an important role for the team. he's similar to deledio and no one says he has 'heart issues'. i'm happy our club had a win also in terms of what he cost us

You're not happy with his current output considering his cost Fudd? I was critical of some games early but the message is getting through. He's been V good of late.

Agree with his impact re efficiency and disposal, been very impressive. He obviously is a smart footballer. I have spoken with guys that watched and played with him in junior football and the continuing theme is "silk". He did everything so effortlessly at that level.

Don't think you can really make a comparison with Deledio in terms of "hardness" (which it appears you are making) Lids has done some pretty crazy brave stuff. Bachar still looks a little uncomfortable one on one in the air (note the 3 contests he was outmarked one on one in the Lions game by opponents of similar size) but isn't what I would call "soft".

Fingers crossed, Hislop comes good. That will see bitter taken to a new level ......

You must have missed watching the Brisvegas game last week Elmer. Didn't you see Bash come back under the high ball into the path of Stumpy and the Brisvegas player?
Bash has plenty of ticker, he's not the bash and crash power player like a Jonno Brown or a Dusty Martin, but he goes to the contest and drops into the hole when needed. Bash's prime value ( apart from his laser kicking ) comes from his gut running to break the lines and create space, different kind of mental courage required but just as tough running till you chunder as crashing a pack.

yeah thats about right. i put the deledio comparison out there to probably illustrate you dont need to be jake king tough to be a contributor because elmer claimed houli had 'heart issues'. harsh and off the mark to basically call him soft and at the same time it would be flattering to call deledio hard. he's certainly brave and committed, but not tough. it's not really his go but lids is always prepared to jump in and help a team mate or defend himself when he has to. deledio is a machine in the air and has it all over houli aerially as youd expect with he extra height and bigger leap.

i recall one game against the saints 2-3 seasons ago very late in the game coming back with the flight. head clash from memory. before that incident he wasnt as highly regarded as he should have been. that earned him a fair bit of respect from his teammates, fans and greater football public

i believe Bachar's courage levels are consistent with his anxiety / nervousness levels. as he's feeling more comfy and confident on field, his levels of courage have also increased. he's not a Chris Newman but he could become a Deledio soon...

Is currently 13th on Tiger list for average contested possessions per game. Take away your midfielders and rucks and he's sitting about 4 or 5th. Hard to equate that to having heart issues. Not only has Houli been getting alot of ball, he's been going in when its his turn, even though he is predominantly an outside player.
