Bachar Houli - بشار حولي,

I agree completely, you certainly know your footy. There are disposals that count and those that don't. And the there are those that who you can count on and those you can't.

Houli's GF was way overrated IMO. There were big metres gained and disposals from poor kickouts. Given that he plays so loose, his game must be gauged on impact on the game. Aside from his goal given to him by Martin, most of his kicks in the GF were poor. Please tell me about his best kicks in the GF because I have watched it many times and they don't exist.

He took a couple of crucial marks running back into Crows. Was easily in the top three players on the ground.

Yeh, I'm not the biggest Houli fan but he and martin were the best 2 of GF day IMO.

Bachar should have taken Normie home in 2017. Richmond royalty . Most definitely not the problem in 2019.

I find it unbelievable that there are those that continue to question the value Bash has provided (and continues to provide) to our football club.

No where near it Dusty got his possessions at the coalface, under pressure and dominated

Bachar got most his possessions out in space and dominated. (10 of his 11 marks were uncontested)

Suggesting that a possession gained out in space is = to a possession gained in contest is just mind boggling.

Bachar had just 6 contested possessions in the GF, Dusty had 22 and yet Dusty had a higher disposal efficiency. (lose man in defence is the easiest gig these days)

Bachar played a great game but to suggest he should have taken home the Norm Smith is moronic.

One of the press reporters involved said that the votes had Dusty then daylight then Bachar.

On your second point Bachar is a problem this year, if you think its ok to not put your head over the hard ball and plays a game padding out his stats then you are an easy poster to please.

Bachar has played some great football this year but the last four games have been just average value despite what the stats suggest.

You'll is getting a bit of the ball but he's definitely less effective at the moment, namely because he usually bombs long and we don't have anyone to Mark the damned thing.
Soldo needs to be sent back to work on his body work in a marking contest. I don't care if he doesn't take it. I just don't want to see the opposition Mark it because he's run 2 metres under the ball.

Excellent post - because I agree with it :)

This is not about potting Houli, but it's ok to disagree with the hyperbolic love for Houli without being called a 'Hater' right?

The single voting person to give Houli the maximun votes was Terry Wallace and he is on record on saying it was on the basis of his metres gained. Now, Houli kicked out and played on numerous times gaining big metres gained and disposal numbers. The only problem was most of these came directly back and more than one for scorers. They were not effective metres gained and he didn't earn the disposal in the first place.

Houli took some great incept marks but in each case he turned the ball over.

Aside from his goal, his disposal by foot was abysmal, hardly any of his kicks went to our advantage. If you disagree tell me about his best kick on the day.

Its just not right to perpetuate the myth that Houli should have taken the norm smith. He had a good game, however Martin clearly deserved it, then daylight and then many others before Houli IMO.

Is having his best season at Tigerland, averaging 30 possessions a game.
Of course he's going to turn the ball over a bit when he's getting it 30 times a game.

TM possessions unless the team gets an advantage from them are meaningless except for the individual who gets the kudos.

When we beat Port Rockliff got 37 possessions, did they hurt us? not really because many of them involved kicks across the ground to switch play or kicks backwards.

Remember in 2016 Cotchin was padding his stats running around a team mate for cheap HB receives, did we benefit no! and I am glad in 2017 he returned to his natural game and just went hard at the ball or the player with the ball.

Bachar's turned the ball over against the Cats, but his season overall has been very good.

If you kick the ball over 40m to a contest it is considered an effective disposal. Houli invariably kicks as long as he can to a contest.

I've been a Houli critic at times over the years, but he is in hot form right now when we need him, and anybody who doesn't think he was best, clear second best, (I think he was clear second best) or at the absolute outside equal second best in the GF is either trying to re-write history or does not know much about footy and is showing their bias.

Reckon he'll kick shorter if there's a free option, and he hits the target more reliably than most.

Bachar Houli 20 5 25 11 0 0 0 5 1 2 131

Dustin Martin 14 15 29 1 0 3 2 1 2 2 90

Stats aren't always indicative but ... Dusty more handballs . The 11-1 is tackles. Totally 'moronic' yandb?

Try putting the glasses on Jonsey I am using the match center stats from the AFL.

The stats say that Bachar took 11 marks 1 of them contested.

Where do you get the tackles from?

Are the stats distorted somewhat by the new kick out rules though?

Good point, possibly, their's also the Short injury. He did turn the ball over a bit against the Cats, i still think he's having a pretty good year.
