Bachar Houli - بشار حولي,

Love how he backs himself to win the footy, at times doesn’t seem to respect his opponent
skirts the packs and keeps his feet beautifully, playing his role perfectly not everyone needs to be a banger and a crasher.

Bachar has been one of the best running backs in the league for many years now and over the journey is possibly the best.

A very simple player to understand. Typical elite running back. His ability to accelerate through lines to receive or onto loose sets him above his rivals.

And an awesome bloke.

Richmond champion Bachar Houli is in fine form.

Watched the replay. How couldn't people put him in the votes?

Interesting that he made the team of the week yet his overall AFL player rating went from Ranking 258 down to ranking 262?

In regards to small/medium defenders he is ranked 57th!

Behind the likes of the following who play similar roles - Jordan Lewis? Jarrod Harbrow? Dale Thomas? Nic Newman? Hayden Crozier? Jayden Short? Matthew Suckling? Conor McKenna? Shane Savage? Christian Salem? Jason Johannisen?

And he's only just in front of Luke McDonald & Jaspar Pittard?

Reckon he just about gets picked in front of all of those guys.

Lambo doesn't even put him in the side

Best 22 to be fair easy. ;D Gets a game now and I'd probably sneak him in and Brando out of best 22 on last game's form.

I think he is getting a lot of it now because Shed and Stacky have really picked up the defensive intensity and creative rebound. Bashar can now take off with even less worry about defensive duties.

To give him some credit and picking up on Jack's comments his running was very impressive in that handball chain play that ended up in a Lynch goal. He handballs at half back and then sprints forward around the back to actually get a handball receive from Flossy from memory running through the centre circle.

Interestingly Champion data had him playing a below par game for Houli  and he dropped in the ratings.

I must say I fell off the chair when they announced him BOG as did my Essendon companion and I scurried to see how much ball he got. i was surprised it was 37.

I thought he started very well but in the middle of the game he was poor in contested stuff and as usual a 50/50 result after a Houli possession is counted as a win in the Lamby household.

;D

I dont get seduced by disposals, and gave baker BOG for his work rate,

but Bachar really is the best half back flanker in the business right now.

Whitfield uses it better (he's as good by foot as any ive ever seen),

but doesn't read it, sag off and intercept like Bachar.

I thought Bachar could be one whose game was affected post Rance, but he seems to be getting better?

mmm, Whitfield is pretty damn good at reading it and finding space but Houli has been another experienced player that has lifted without the guns. His running ability is amazing.

Lamby makes a good point about Stack/Shed, they provide the intercept and Houli the run.

On Houli's 37 disposals. The stats said he had 4 contested and 21 uncontested possessions. I'm pretty good at maths: that leaves 12, which I assume he got from playing on from kick-ins.

Dusty had 28 combined contested and uncontested possessions but 35 disposals and he didn't do any kickouts that I am aware of. So they often don't equal each other But yes in the case of Houli I believe he did do most of the kickouts from behinds. Regardless he was my BOG, and both coaches believed so too.

Whereas watching live and before announcements I said to colleagues at the game:

3) Houli
2) Dusty
1) Titch

All in the eye of the beholder, have pretty much been a Bachar fan in his time at Richmond which I know is at odds with most here on PRE ;D

I thought the same with Baker 4th Caesar.

Feel even better that both coaches thought the same for the first 3 at least.

Just like there are now more than two genders, there are now also more than two types of possessions. The world is changing, get used to it.

I called Bachar as the medal winner at half time on the betting thread (STC had backed Stackman).

I definitely have a bias against the outside blokes. I love them and the team needs them,

But in my own stats in my head, I assign heaps more weight to in tight and hard stuff.

I always make a point of voting on the PRE player of the year before looking at any formal stats or reading any media (inc. PRE)

Think I went

Bakes, Dusty, Bachar?

He certainly played on from a few kick-outs, whether it was 12 I'm not sure. He also took at least one free kick from a deliberate or out on the full - perhaps that's neither contested nor uncontested in the wisdom of Champion Data?

If play-on Kickouts attract a disposal,

there's surely bookies disposal markets to be exploited?

Why, e,t! Perish the thought! The AFL is above corruption!

what a gimme, soft match fix.

Balmey: 'Ok fellas, taz and the club80 boys gave us a cheque for $35K on Monday. We're gonna double it this Friday and pay for Marlion Pickett. Jim Jess is backing Dusty to get over 30 disposals @ $2. If he's on 25 in the last quarter, HE TAKES THE KICK INS. Marlion, you OK to do the next Club 80 gig?'

Marlion: 'sure boss'

Yes.

There's also a reason why players are chosen to kick in from a behind - because they are good at it, and coaches feel they add value to the team by doing it. They have to make the right decision and execute just like any other disposal.

Makes you wonder why they give the task to Houli.
