Bachar has contributed more to the club that what was on show yesterday. The culture of the club has changed so much in terms of belief, acceptance, values and humility. There are so many unique individuals who have become so singular in focus whilst still celebrating their differences. The bonds that have been formed are on so many more levels than just winning a game.
He would have to be one of the most inspirational sportspeople I have ever heard speak about life. He, along with some other amazing people, have created a truly great club that I am proud to follow.
Spoke very well on Game Day today, represents the club very well.

Club isn’t silly, they sent out the only person at the club without a hangover.

Re: Bachar "The Finals Specialist" Houli

I love him and it was terrific to see him win a Premiership Medallion. I would have given him the Norm Smith as well.

He is my 9 yo daughter's favourite player as he is always one of the nicest blokes with the kids at clinics.

So proud to have great characters like him representing our club.

I was wondering if there are any other teetollars in the team these days.

Just saw Bachar interviewed on Ch7 Game Day ... wow he's an impressive person.
Very relaxed and charismatic.

Think I've got a new favourite player .... well maybe equal 2nd behind Dusty :hihi

Agree. Probable one of the best interviews I seen.
Very open and truthful, nice to see a footballer not to give standard answers

Yep. I have no doubt if his name was Barry Hooley he wouldn’t be the irrational whipping boy that he was.

Really, why is that?

Re: Bachar "The Finals Specialist" Houli

I've always been a huge Bachar fan but he has sometimes (in past seasons) been shaky under intense pressure. Yesterday he took his game to a new level. It was like he was bloody Glenn Archer or something operating in Houli's body. Absolutely incredible game winning 50/50s, executing under all sorts of heat, putting his body and head on the line. And still doing the normal Bachar things - run, creativity, precision. Brilliant.

Re: Bachar "The Finals Specialist" Houli

I thought Bachar was BOG...but he was definitely only second to Rance or Martin. Bachar you are a gem. Thank you!

Wow, that's the stupidest thing I've read on here in a long time. Pretty inflammatory and down right insulting. Don't play the race card.

When Bachar kicked the ball up the middle in the last seconds to 3 Freo players I could care less what his name was/is. He has had a great finals series and been solid all year.

Baloo, that's garbage.

I've never been Houli's greatest fan. And, as I posted in round 2 or 3 this year, it's always been due to a problem of balance. In previous years, our static and constipated game plan highlighted his flaws. Fortunately, his skillset was key for the direct, attacking nature of Tigers 2017.

He plays the loose man role which can lead to a lack of accountability. But when he provides enough drive, he makes up for that. The game plan this year suddenly tipped that balance in his favour.

His kicking has always been ambitious, and he's a bit like Dusty in the hit or miss stakes. Unfortunately, as an outside player, he isn't afforded those misses as often. The game plan this year meant he could more often go long and direct (precise kicking becomes gold/turnovers less dangerous) as opposed to short kicks backwards and across the ground, where turnovers turn games. Again, this year the balance has been in his favour, despite the justified criticism that he can still turn it over painfully and concede easy goals (he was leading in this stat AFL Wide). And as good as he was in the Granny, don't think that missed switch across goal to Astbury in the first quarter which gave the Crows a mini run on, and the missed set shots didn't hurt his norm Smith chances.

He is a premiership hero. And he stood up massively on the big stage. We may not have won it without him.

But, over the course of his career, he has had genuine and legitimate criticisms due to the role he plays, and the overall balance of his strengths and weaknesses.

It's pretty disgusting to come out now and label those who criticised racist.

Especially when you look at the parallels between he and B. Ellis. Brando had just as many knockers, played a similar role, had similar weaknesses and benefited I'm a similar way from the changes this year. And didn't he cop the whipping boy status. All without being Muslim.

Poor form, Baloo.

Re: Bachar "The Finals Specialist" Houli

A lot of the criticism for Bachar came out of perception. He would play a solid or even good game, but be remembered for the one or two bad things he did, and there were some absolute howlers, the kick out against Freo in 2015 springs to mind immediately. This gave him the unwanted mantle of panic merchant. Along with a lot of other players wearing the yellow and black this year he managed to remove some of those from his game and consequently is a Premiership player and a life member of the RFC.
Thank you Essendon Football Club for being a bunch of knobs and gifting us a Premiership player in the PSD.

Re: Bachar "The Finals Specialist" Houli

no way Ellis was denigrated like Bash was

Re: Bachar "The Finals Specialist" Houli

anyway Houli had a ripsnorter GF. wonderful.
Brandon did his role, and there were no weak links. And he had a tremendous 2 matches leading up to this. happy for both of them to be considered Champions

Re: Bachar "The Finals Specialist" Houli

Love that Dusty won it (will dine out on his quaddie season forever) but had Bach as BOG at the game and after the replay.

Baloo I love your posting and generally agree with you, but not on the Barry/Bachar comment.

Re: Bachar "The Finals Specialist" Houli

There’s whipping boys and then there’s whipping boys. I’m not claiming all criticism or even the majority is due to who he is and what he stands for. He’s an outiside player and when we lose they are the first to be abused. He and Grigg copped a fair bit over the years.

But Bachar copped abuse that was directed personally, constantly with examples of his weakness/squibness/lack of courage often being made up. His whipping had a sharper edge at times.

But I’ll retract my comment if it’s come across as too broad and labelling all criticism of Bachar being due to his religion, that’s not what was intended.

Fair enough.

Had an absolutely fantastic grand final, and will go down as a hero of 2017.

Reckon that's all that matters now.

Yes you are right Baloo if his name was Tivendale McMahon or Morris he would not have been criticized. :headscratch :headscratch :headscratch

Tivendale was probably the most criticized player I can remember, Bashar doesn't even come close.

Bashar gave his critics plenty of ammunition in past seasons with his willingness to pull out or short step hard ball contests.

He has addressed this area of his game this season so kudos to Bashar.
