“Ali Fahour made a mistake, an error of judgment, and knows full well that these actions like mine are not acceptable,” Houli wrote in a Facebook post.

“Let me tell you something, Ali Fahour is a person of highest character, a person who has done so much for so many people and a person I would trust my life with.”

You've picked and chosen those quotes. Post the whole lot. He did excuse him somewhat.

'I don't condone what he did although he is not alone, we have all made mistakes in our life and its about owning it and how you use it to make you a better person.'

Sorry but if you king hit someone like that there's no excuse for it.

'Not acceptable' is if you fart in a lift.

Reprehensible is probably the word that Houli should have used.

Yes, let's quibble over his choice of words. That's what's really important here.

Is what you posted the full quote or just part thereof? Have you picked and chosen those quotes above. How come you didn't post the whole article yourself then?

Dunno where or how he "excuses him somewhat" Where does he say that.
"I don't condone what he did"
"He is not alone, we have all made mistakes in our life"
"It's about owning it and how to use it to make you a better person"
Where exactly is the excuse? That we've all made mistakes? Hardly excusing him.

Not that I condone any such act. But partly to fill in the gaps or give some context.
Paraphrasing.
"He snapped when he saw Ahmed Saad being held in a choker hold and Saddington was throwing punches at him"

It's happened before and will happen again if a teammate sees another is in trouble. Hopefully he'll intervene in a more appropriate manner

Re: Bachar "Stand By Your Man" Houli

"Mistake" is hardly the description I'd use for such a deliberate act of violence where good luck rather than good management prevented a far more dire outcome.

Re: Bachar "Stand By Your Man" Houli

IMO I think it was unnecessary for Houli to support him in a public forum, considering Houlis indiscretion only a couple of weeks earlier and the seriousness of Fahours incident.

Would have been better for Houli to support Fahour privately and not get himself involved.

Farting in a lift is not acceptable, really?
I guess I am childish cause I like doing it!

Or you can say "stuff the PR ramifications, he's my friend and I'll show my support publically".

As I said previously, that's the type of friend I'd like to have the courage to be

Angling for a post-footy role in Fahour Enterprises?

Definitely thumbed his nose at public sentiment though.

Or maybe they are just mates Lee.

If that's all it is then it's not very smart. Stating that Fahour is a man of "incredible character" entitles the public to question Bachar's milieu.

Support the bloke in person and post your public Facebook opinions later.

I think under the circumstances, considering his suspension the previous week Houli should have kept quiet. I don't know if my mate was going around king hitting others on a footy field I'd want to be inclined to publicly support their personality. I'd be more inclined if I was a good friend to have a quiet word with them. Just thought it was bad judgement on Houli's part.

It's absolutely smart. The public can question his "milieu" all they want. Shutting up because the public may not like what you say is a choice. A weak one.

Personally I see Bachar as a man of great character and this episode has not changed that for me. My respect for him from three weeks ago to now has grown, not diminished.

Sometimes you have to stand up for what you believe in and let the public make up its own mind.

Houli probably knew he'd get some flak, but it seems his first and foremost intention was to come out and support his friend. Admirable. Probably foolish, but admirable none the less.

Can't argue with that. But in light of the police charges today, maybe it would've been best saved for the courtroom.

Thanks Lee.

I'd reckon Bachar could repeat what he said on social media in a courtroom if he's so inclined.

Wow. I'm trying to understand what standing up for what you believe in is? So Bachar believes it was just a mistake. An error of judgement. What, he meant to hit him in the shoulder and just missed?

Real support would be giving him the truth, that his act was cowardly, that he has a history of violence and that and he should be seeking serious help. And state that publicly, not this garbage about him being some sort of peerless character. And then start a crowd funding page for his mental health support funds, #fundsforfahoursfrenzy

I suppose you think the same of Abbott's kind words of support for Pell, just a mate sticking up for a mate? #RespectTony.
