Tygrys said:He is what he is. The problem with Houli is that he is a known commodity. I'm not just talking about the three matches of course, but also his four seasons at Essendon (which his form at Richmond seems to be a continuation of). For those looking for instant improved competitivenes and a minor upgrade on what we had previously, all at a bargin basement price, he is a steal. For those more concerned about an eventual tilt at the premiership, and who aren't as worried about our competitiveness in the here and now, he represents a diversion and a wasted opportunity. He is the whipping boy because along with Miller he seems to represent to his detractors the old Richmond of Mark Graham, Kent Kingsley, Jordan McHahon and Adam Thomson. The old Richmond that we thought had gone.
Bottomline is for him to stop being the whipping boy he has to improve markedly on what he was at Essendon (which personally I don't think he is capable of doing). If he continues being the same old Houli that rightly or wrongly couldn't get a game at the bombers in 2010, even if he cost almost nothing, he'll continue to polarise the supporter base. It's the Tambling and McHahon thread all over again I'm afraid...

He did kick well, two passes in particular across the ground were very good. His lack of pace is a concern for his role - he needs to be able to break to space and get to contests.
