Bachar Houli - بشار حولي,

Disappointed in Houli's game last night.
Heard the footsteps and chose to punch when he should have marked at least twice.
I realise he's an outside players but also under Dimma's mantra, when it's your turn you go - and that includes having a crack at the right option rather than the easy one.
Other efforts were not as strong as they should have been.
He's a cheapy via the pre-season draft but still want him to get fair dinkum.

too early to judge Houli. Give him a year before u ask for his head. And give him to round 10 before we seriously question him. His showing signs but I do agree that he probably hasnt shown quite enough atm.

Decent summation. I'm not very impressed and beginning to see why he was on the outer at the Bombers.

I saw him throw himself in to get the hard ball several times last night, one time in particular he and a Hawk player both threw themselves at the ball and the Hawk player came out injured from it.

He also hit targets several times with his excellent kicking skills.

I'll judge on a full game, but he did go in the second quarter when Hale was bearing down on him

We must have watched different games.

Think I was at the same game as you mate.

I saw the same game as 17.
I'm not impressed bob with what I have seen to date.
I think Bachar looks pretty slow and I'm not convinced he's hitting the contests as hard as I expect.
Perhaps I'm expecting too much but little wrong with setting the bench mark high when a recyled player is recruited from another club, no matter what the cost. I want to emphasise I'm not punching Bachar's card but I don't see him making much difference to our team atm.
Just a player.

I think the expectations are too high in terms of what you and others expect from a guy into his third game at a new club in a new system.

He isn't quick, he never was advertised as so. He is a player with flaws, no doubt, but it is what he adds to the team that is what Hardwick and the coaches see benefitting us.

I saw great signs last night. He hit the contests harder I thought, and his kicking was a lot better. As he understands the running patterns and systems that we want his kicking will get even better. It's about knowing, understanding and playing your role. He is an outside spread runner that will deliver the ball with penetration to our forwards to break zones, clusters and presses. As we improve as a team so too will his role and so will he.

Not every player has to be the star, some just have to be good reliable role players. I am hoping he will develop into that. He is improving every week, I don't know what more we expect?

Let's give him half a season to find his feet with us , after all he didn't play any ( or many ) AFL games last year so the pace will be pretty hot for him at the moment.
His foot skills are useful and last nights conditions wouldnt have suited him ( no thats not an excuse ).

Some valid points in that post.
I'm still not quite seeing it the same way.
Will be interesting to see how it unfolds for Bachar at Richmond.

Yeah I understand some are not convinced, Bachar's style of play will not be roundly applauded, but I think it's just tying to forsee what we are trying to do with structures, systems and gameplay.

I could be wrong, I hope I am not.

Yeah I thought Houli was terrific last night and could be a real option for us playing on opposition teams small forwards.

There were at least 15 players worse than Bachar last night.

Give the guy a break I say!

Certainly an improvement on our last "high profile" recruitment to fill the role that Houli is now playing.

I'm sure we can all remember the previous resident of the no.13 guernsey.

Its amazing Basher is put under the microscope by some. Youd think we had drafted Judd gave up 3 draft picks and were paying him a million $$ to play for us and he was underperforming us.
Players that have been around long enough and should be put under the microscope are Deledio, Morton, Connors, Newman, King, White, Edwards & Graham. These players must perform on a regular basis and lead the way for the youngsters instead of going AWOL.

If we are building towards a premiership team in a few years time one thing we have to ask is bachar's style of play going to contribute to winning finals football?
For those saying give him a chance to find his feet, just remember he is in his fourth season of afl football and if you wont go in hard when it is your turn now how will 5 or 6 more games make a difference.
For those claiming he has elite kicking skills where is the proof? I can only count 4 kicks this season i would class as great(in 3 games) matty white has more great kicks on the board this year and he is only classed as an average kick.

Where did the claim come from about Bachar's elite kicking?

Some questions I would like to be answered before I am convinced on Bachar (preferably by Bachar's peformance on the field)

Unfortunately he is delivering what I expected. He did spot up a couple of targets with nice delivery but the downside, his lack of physical pressure and lack of pace, will outweigh the kicking ability. Will be dropped if he does not show more intensity at the contest.

Baloo, I think I had him down as Jordy Mk II before the season.
