Assistant Coach Wish List

I wonder if Ashley Hanson might be a chance to come to us.

Don't know anything about him as a coach, but during our search for a senior coach, there were rumours in WA from some pretty reliable sources that he was considered a big chance of getting our senior gig.

After the presser I unfortunately think this is likely...
Hope not. He’s been at 3 clubs now and hardly set the world on fire at any of them and at St Kilda there was a reference to standards and the level of them during his tenure.

Seems like a nice guy but we can do better than Ratten.

On Michael Barlow its worth noting its not a level playing field.
Non aligned clubs have a salary cap of 220k.
Afl aligned clubs are 110k
Some vfl clubs struggle to pay half the cap. Werribee has pokie income so can pay the full amount.

And many afl aligned clubs have younger players from their afl list. We see this at our vfl side.

Werribee on the other hand can have a list aimed at vfl success.

Simply put as a coach he has the cattle

It will be interesting to see what assistants he will bring. It sounds like most of the current group will stay on. Some of the names he has worked with would be Scott Burns, Adrian Hickmott, Andy Collins, Zane Littlejohn, Choco Williams, Greg Stafford, Brett Ratten and Troy Chaplin.

I heard Yze mention he'll give Ratts a call. Maybe left lolnorf coz he's tired of the job, who knows.
Heard he might be going back to coach in the top division of one of the state's strongest local footy comps.

How true that is, who knows.

Had a conversation with a relative of a player today. He believed there needs to be a change with the assistants, said rutten pretty much went through the motions, he was apparently a shell of the guy from his previous stint with Richmond (essendon will do that to you). Then said teague has been known to bag players to other players causing angst in the group.

Ex coaches who get straight back into assistant roles should be a no-no in most cases. They’ve lost the eye of the tiger, and for many they will never get to the peak again.

But the non-aligned VFL salary cap has to pay for a full squad whereas the aligned clubs have roughly half the team's 22 paid for by the AFL club.

Surely we have learned our lesson getting in failed senior coaches as assistants and will look to get some fresh blood as TTT has stated. Just watching our skills set and difunctional game for most of last season has to indicate we need change. Hopefully under Adem we will get it

If he wants Ratten fair enough he knows him back to front.
According to Yze, Ratten has been a friend and mentor of his for many years. I can understand why he would want him to be part of his team as he takes the on the biggest job of his life.

Yeah, I think he'd be great. Everyone in the industry talks about what a good person he is and how is great at building a culture.

I think he'd be fantastic.
The obvious place for Ratts for me is to replace Balme.
Dont actually know what Blames title is but he has moved away from direct involvement in the footy side and seems to be just an advisor now.
Remember that Balme was looking at retirement before he came to us.

As for the assistants, this gives us the chance to clear the decks.
If we lose Mini, Rutten, Teague, Clarke and Morris (which may all be likely) then we can get a really clean slate of new coaches.
I really like some of the suggestions here - Barlow, Lappin, Gia, Hansen even Cameron
Lambert to replace Morris at VFL level
