With all that's been posted, I truly wonder where we'd be if we HADN'T taken Tyrone Vickery with our pick no.8 in 2008?

There was enormous pressure at the time to pick elsewhere.

Yeah, I'll give you that debate. I stand by wanting Ziebell (who has the last six weeks put up over 21 touches and 5 tackles a week) but we would be in a lot of trouble without Vickery. Vickery is one of the big building blocks and we are in a better spot moving forward with Ty Vickery instead of Jack Ziebell.

Debate Closed in my book. Vickery was the correct pick.

Yep, it was ahard decision.

I still remember Y&B pointing Zeibell out to me in the U15 champs down at TEAL oval.

I followed Zeibell's progress for 3 years and was broken hearted that we had to overlook him because we'd failed to draft a decent junior ruckman in the 3 years before.

And I know that Y&B was even more heartbroken over that, and us not taking Dawson Simpson.

There's a reason for everything, even though that reason may not always be correct.

Who is Y & B?

Y&B is a poster here.

He has a real identity, of course, and has been very helpful to the RFC with profiles of NE Vic boys in years gone by.

Frank knows him by his real name, not as Y&B.

I'd plough on with Graham and Browne for another year and take a draft ruck and a rookie. We need more class mids and a HFF before worrying about a ruck. Throw everything at a ruck in 2 years when we might be ready for finals.
I am inclined to agree with that line of thought, although I would say our needs are backline rather than mids. It seems that if you are a ruckman short of premiership team there is always a Salmon, Everitt, Jolly type on a short contract who is fit for purpose. A ruck can slot into any team whereas back units need to play together a bit to become a unit. Just my thoughts.

The difference of ruck quality between the two teams yesterday was frightening.
Both Graham and Vickery were reduced to running into NikNat to try and curb his jump.
Also Natanui's work around the ground & stoppages most certainly made Gus in particular look like a cardboard cutout.
Fortunately Cox's early injury had him playing forward most of the day or it could have been far worse for us in the middle.

Massive dilemma for the club right now, our ruck stocks are well past crisis point.

Believe it or not we copped less of a flogging in the ruck than most teams against the WCE,

We lost the hitouts by 13, the WCE before yesterday were averaging a 20 hitout winning margin.

We can't get a ruckman who can beat Nic Nat, Cox and the Q. The reason for that is that they don't exist.

Running against the tide. I thought Graham competed well. He was always on a hiding to nothing yesterday. There arent many teams that would have done better. We were killed by the on ballers of the eagles rather than just the ruckmen

Performed 2 feats of extraordinary skill today:
1. Headbutted a hitout.
2. Instead of dishing off the footy to avoid being tackled, he managed to hide the football behind his back before firing off a handball.

I actually like a fair bit of Gus' game today, it's too bad that he hasn't shown a bit more this year. I've called for his head several time but is he worth perservering with?

Is there any chance 2012 could be the coming of Gus?

Gus was better around the ground today, crashed a couple of packs, and took one good contested mark. Just needs a bit more aggression at the contest.

one of the reasons we played so well today was the performance or some of our lesser regarded players..i thought gus was quite good around the ground....i wouldnt give up on him just yet

He actually copped a falcon during the warm-up too!

Seriously - who was that Player wearing number 25 and what have they done with Player Angus Graham?

That Player 25 took several very good marks, moved well, disposed of the ball well - who was he/

Were aliens involved?
