Would have liked to see the Ranga eased into it a bit more instead of being thrown to the wolves.
A 3rd or 4th gamer to shoulder the ruck load is a big ask.

With the new sub rule it's 1st ruck or nothing.
Hope he grabs his opportunity with both hands.

im gonna find that browne thread now in readiness because i'm not expecting a massive upgrade on gus and anticipate the critics to be out in force

Well he's got 3 years & 40 games to try & get to where Gus's lofty heights currently are Blinger.

Given that time there's no question he'll be a better player.

The thing that Browne has going for him though is that he has been dominating VFL games. He's been doing this for a while now as well. Has been v good all year in the 2's & saw him do it a couple of times last year, which is pretty solid for a 2nd year ruck.

Gus showed promise at VFL level but definitely never dominated.

We can only hope Browne is the answer to our rucking problems.

i havent seen what more learned watchers have seen in browne but i cant help to think this was the wrong game to bring in a 5 gamer when right now he is not an obvious upgrade

Sorry to dissapoint but the games i have seen of Browne he is Graham Mark II with less mobility!! Bombers rucks to have a field day. Hille may just kick 10!!

I'm just hoping that when the ball is bounced in the middle our #1 Ruckmen actually looks at the ball and tries to jump and make body contact with the other guy. It'll be bizzare to watch a replay and not have the commentators "sighing" and mumbling "geez" because they don't know quite know what to say with regards to Graham's actions.

Angus has some nice attributes but he really needs some training on timing and balance/jumping etc. Can Angus even slam a basketball? Or is he just one of those big guys who would try to jump, the body won't go anywhere and he just whacks the ball into the side of the rim?

If this year was about a tilt for the flag Lids perhaps I'd agree with you but we need to take a longer term view.
Finals may or may not be a possibility but IMO it's still largely about getting games into younger players and that includes our red headed ruckman.
As others say he's done well at Coburg, let's see how he goes back in the seniors. Temper expectations and he might well surprise.

high expectations aren't the problem oldie, thats why i am worried and although i know its about the kids and the future if we won on saturday i wouldnt mind if we rested jack cotch lids and dusty against port.

we have a convenient excuse but this game means something to every tiger fan

I noticed gus looking at hudson as well, this comes when your opponent jumps early and you cop a couple of knees in the hip, that hurts like stink, then you start looking for it to protect yourself. Hudson worked gus over last week but I'd expect an experienced ruck to do that to a young bloke.
As for gus jumping he gets up early but when you run out 80-90% of the game and you are *smiled* its a little harder to get of the ground.

Some decent discussion in here I see ............ Big Nige still standing up for his Man Gus still I see, good for him.

I know nothing about this Browne kid other than he's a Ranga (from what Ive read in the last 2 pages), so my expectations are rock bottom that he'll be the next Mark Lee (has it seriously been 25 years since we've had a guy that could play in the Ruck with any success at all ?)

Good luck to the kid, I look forward seeing what he has, not only in the Ruck, but what he can do around the ground also.

I actually expect him to play marginally worse than Gus but get more positive comment on PRE.

Welcome back jack
Yeah I'm still trying to educate the pinhead midgets just what the go is with this rucking caper.
I really hope young Andy B. makes a good fist of it but he's got a hell of a challenge taking on 3 quality rucks. If all else fails then just run through one at a bounce, worked for me ;D

I think I used to play against you... Oh hang on every amateur football ruckman goes the biff if they are getting beaten.

In fairness to Gus the days of running through people in the centre bounce are long gone in AFL. The ruckman often look at each other as they run in to get their jump timing right

tend to agree LB&C but I think it's probably more of a 'he's buggered' thing.

Given that the bombers have 3 ruckmen playing it would've made sense to also bring in PoMo. Bombers will be rotating all three through the forward line. I reckon that's what we should be doing too. Especially seeing that Hurley is out.

Depends how much faith Dimma has in our mids to win the contested ball.Win that and we should be fine. All of a sudden they have 2 extra lumbering players[Hill / Bellchambers] which we should take advantage of.
If not then i agree,Bring in Post.
Will be interesting to see what happens.

There you go mate, that is just fine by me also ;).........I recall playing in a Granny back in the mid 80's instructing my Ruckman to do exactly that, unfortunately he didnt quite get the whole "Run through" part correct and literally jumped and smacked the guy fair on the jaw ......got himself 6 weeks rest to start the next year though (and we still lost :()

Ive never seen this Browne kid play that I can recall, really don't see whats to lose at this stage, gotta keep trying these kids to see if they are worth perservering with or moving on and the only way to do that is to play them.............Your right though, not sure the 3 pronged attack of the Bummers is a perfect scenerio, but hey, in this day and age, what is anymore ?

By the way, back from where ?
