no denying sandilands played a very good game, but hardwick, and others praised gus for his efforts , and for getting into dangerous positions, including kicking a very important goal, late in the 3rd if i remember correctly. (which was one more goal than sandilands could manage).
gus also managed 6 votes in the all important PRE player of the year. some obviously valued his efforts against the best ruckman in the league.

Are you serious. Did someone actually give him votes when he was given a such bath by his opponent. :hihi

The undeniable facts are his opponent has been the best big man on the ground the past 2 weeks.

Nothing against old Gus but he simply isnt good enough.

the last 2 weeks his opponent has got a few clearances because they have stayed out of the pack whilst gus is fighting for the ball. it is upto the coaches whether they want gus doing that or not.

Thats some gold excuse making Brodders.

In the past two weeks he is trailing 1st possessions to his direct opponent 13-3 & clearances 15-2.

Thats more than a few.

Gus is a massive concern. He almost always watches the other ruckman instead of the ball and when he does actually get the tap its almost always to the opposition midfielders - seems to lack any type of system in his rucking. He offers jack all around the ground and is weak overhead. THis weeks Bellchambers, Hille and Ryder combo is a real worry....as in a 'game breaking' worry.

no shame in being beaten by sandilands, and it is worth bearing in mind hudson was running around in the vfl when he was gus's age, and was part of a midfield that dominated ours. you would think tho a ruckman of sandilands calibre who is having his easiest game of the year would make some impact on the scoreboard. wouldnt you?

as i said i dont think gus will ever be a dominate ruckman, and in time i can see him losing his place in the team when TV takes over the no1 ruck, but until then he is what we have, unless browne can make it, and i dont think he is nearly as bad as is made out.

how did you rate cotchin's clearance work against the dockers? just curious cos he just got the 7, his direct opponent had 12.

but im not disagreeing that the last 2 weeks gus has been beaten by better more experienced opponents. not trying to make excuses with the point of him contesting on the ground, but only he and the coaches know whether they are happy with him doing that.

Any way you look at it, Gus is just not providing the grunt work, the physical presence of a ruckman.

Does not enjoy the contact , does not enjoy the bash or crash. When was the last time he cleared a path for someone or used his massive frame to advantage when the ball hits the deck? Not enough.

Work rate, effort and physicality are things that ruckman make up for the skill deficiencies or the finesse side of their game that may be lacking. For Gus it is his biggest problem.

Yet one game later he is dropped...

Good to see Browne in. Even against the Bomber trio. Still very young in ruck terms so needs to be given time. An extended run will do him good.

Could go either way, but certainly has a lot more scope than his predecessor.

going against the tone of the thread lately, but I reckon Graham was a little harshly treated. He has toiled bloody hard with little assistance.

Nevertheless, it'll be interesting to see the Ranga get a go. I don't hold out a heap of promise, but you never know.

He has worked hard but he had to dropped after last weeks effort.

The coaching staff have to show what type of performance is acceptable, and Graham's effort plainly wasn't.

Hopefully he will watch Hudson's game and be able to adopt some of his blue collar, physical work.

Seems to me like he tries his arse off. Again, I'm probably in the minority on this matter.( I know one of the conmentators made point of him coasting last week, so everyone has jumped on it now).

Maybe he is ferked. Has done a power of work this year, in my view. And I'm far from his biggest fan.

Yeah i wouldn't be surprised if he is gum booted.

All the more reason to give him a spell.
