angus graham playing like a cardboard cutout

Happy that Browne is getting a game after consistent Coburg form. As long as he can look at the ball and not his opponent in a ruck contest and not jump early nearly every time then it's an upgrade.

If Gus's worn out then it certainly showed last week because his effort was pathetic.

That goal not being touched by him on the goal line when Rance had a fresh airy was symptomatic of his inability to raise a gallop.
Agree with calls that Jaffa can do no worse.

Big call by the selection panel. Not necessarily in terms of resting Gus, but in terms of pitting Browne against Hille and (more likely) Bellchambers. He has the frame but does he have the mobility?

A rotation of the rucks was inevitable- Browne's form is good and Gus is playing long minutes and getting worn down physically and mentally

I am surprised they did it this game because Essendon are so deep in the ruck it's going to be a really hard game for young Bronwe. Expect to see a more of TV playing in the ruck.

If anyone is interested this is the comparison between Bellchambers and Browne http://www.footywire.com/afl/footy/ft_player_compare?tid1=6&pid1=2721&tid2=15&pid2=3214&type=A&fid1=S&fid2=S

Hhmmmmmmmm
I know gus didn't have the best of weeks last sunday but christ I don't think he deserves the vitriol he receives on here.

The poor bastard has rucked the absaloute majority of all our games this year and has done some good work ...... hence this thread being very quiet for a couple of weeks.

I hope the boy has a nice rest, comes back and shoves it up the shows people that he is a worthy member of this club

Good luck to the ranga, I hope he blitzes it and makes gus work his *expletive* out to get back in. The poor bugger has a hell of a challenge ahead of him. I just hope he's the messiah half of you make him out to be.

Great move by Dimma and co.

Nothing wrong with getting taken to the cleaners by big Sandi. He'll do that to most first rucks. But to let Ben Hudson dominate you in the ruck contests and then further dominate the game at ground leve is not ok. Ben Hudson is a effort footballer, he beats you through work rate, desire and brute force. And the beating Hudson gave Gus was huge. It was like having another big bodied clearance footballer in the centre square.

I like what I have seen from Browne. He needs a extended run at the top level. Reckon he is a mile ahead of Gus at the same age and will catch him quickly.

What a load of crap...... Hudson is a very very good underrated ruck who has all those things you mentioned, skill and a healthy dose of mongrol. Being beaten by an experienced ruck like Hudson is no shame. Adelaide was spitting when they lost him. For Gus it's another rung in the learning ladder.
Funny how nobody has mentioned his efforts in the weeks before..........

If he was going so well in the weeks prior and only got touched up by two great ruckmen, why was he dropped?

Not rested cause he is playing at The Burg. Dropped for poor form and lack of effort.

Lack of effort is a cop out, some are just blind and don't want to see the work that has been done by some of their less than favorite players.

Gus has been rucking probably 80-90% of game time with plasma spending long stretches in the fwd line, so I find the lack of effort line both ignorant and pathetic.

As for the preceeding weeks well I didn't see anyone up in arms about his efforts agaist L-berg and Goldstein who are the darlings of a lot of posters on here.

I'd say playing at the burg would be a lot easier than playing in the 1's wouldn't you ???

Could you point out where anybody has said anything along those lines.

Love your passion for Gus. But he fully deserved to be dropped after being schooled of late. Just doesnt have the appetite for the contest that a ruck needs.

He's not a kid anymore.

Never said he was a kid but he's not near his peak either
As for pointing out where anybody said what, well, just reading this thread and others ,there is the constant call for browne to be called up because of his form at Coburg which can be a bit over the top when he hasn't encountered the new sub rule at the top level.
Gus showed some pretty good footy last year and in some games this year at the top level where as Andy B. has done not much when bought up.
I'm all for everyone getting their go but some of the crap dished up about Gus when to anybody who watches what he does is just plain wrong is quite infuriating

You just have to excuse some posters, they probably spent their footy career bludging on the half forward flank skirting packs calling for hand passes ;D

Rucking is not well understood on here or other forums, but I still think there are some rough edges on Gus that a stint in Couburg won't hurt. If he's going to be the option long term he's got to work on a few things that are a bit hard to do when 80,000 people are watching.

I also have seen Browne a bit over the last 12 months in the Burg and he has worked hard to earn this shot. I'm excited to see him play.

Good post there Col, well said!

David Parkin said he might be a bit unlucky as he and Vickery were forming a very useful tandem or words similiar to that. Interesting to hear what an ex-coach had to say.

His defensive efforts last week were poor, particularly that non spoil on the goal line. He just needs to be more aware as to what is going on. Possibly a fatigue leading to poor decision making type scenario.

Browne has been doing well at Coburg from all reports. Had to give him a go
