angus graham playing like a cardboard cutout

Another problem I noticed today with Angus is, when he gets a hitout he taps it directly down to his feet. I think our midfielders must have hope that an opposition ruckman will hit the ball to them. There is likely, a much higher chance of that.

i knowwe don't have a handy replacement but Gus has to be dropped if only to let him know that the cr*p he dished up today was unacceptable.

Im happy to have Gus rucking atm just to take the weekly pounding in the centre while the other rucks develope.
The sad thing is Gus's stats are all heading in the right direction but more often than not we'd be a hell of a lot better if he didnt touch it at all!

At the end of the day you can't keep playing a bloke who contributes to so many opposition clearances.

Might as well just use Tuck in the Ruck.Least we,ll have an extra Mid around the ground.

He looks very lazy, so maybe he is just exhausted??

Needs a rest maybe?

Something has got to change because he is a liability to the team.

It continues to amaze me how Gus keeps copping the derision of posters on here

He may not have covered himself in glory yesterday but FFS he continues to work his ass off and put his body on the line....

The stats say he had more tapouts that Hudson and was more effective than Hudson. The thing that showed was that Hudson was very good after the tap which you'd expect an experienced ruck to be.

There were plenty of others who went missing a lot more than Gus

I guess Gus is just the soft target...........

i dont agree that gus puts his body on the line and works his ass off.....

hardwick said yest. is his presser that if gus could put the same second efforts that hudson does "he would be a.......(slight pause) good player"
ud think hardwick is not feeling the love for gus after thedogs game.
still cant help but thinking prob to much of a risk to bring in browne just yet??

heaps of those taps went to the bulldogs

definately needs a rest, had a shocker and hasnt played well all year

If we dont bring in Browne to replace T-Rex Graham why dont we get Post to ruck?
Saw Post spend some time in the ruck last year and I thought he did ok. Afterall he couldnt do any worse than T-Rex Graham

Well I'd think if you ruck almost ALL day then you'd be working your Ass off and putting your body on the line, I know it used to kill me when I did it.....

I saw plasma in the ruck rarely yesterday....

And if I'm not wrong gus got smashed in the last qtr from a Hudson cheapy, and took the mark, I'd say thats putting your body on the line....

I think the second efforts that Dimma's talking about would be the second ruck efforts, that sort of thing will come with experience and Hudson has been a very good ruck at this for a while.

Just looking at the stats in the paper and gus had more taps and better efficiency

That taps went to the bulldog is not just an indictment on gus but the mids as well......

It gaulls me that paople flog the ruck when the clearances are down most have never rucked in their lives and know FA about the caper :help

Obviously Nige you're sticking up for a fellow ruckman, but even all the commentators were saying he had a shocker and until we get a decent ruckman that will utilise our mids we wont compete against the big boys. Its not an indictment on Gus himself but he has limitations that i have brought up before and its not something Gus can help. His cranial limits will keep him at a level as what he is at but he will never be a General Lee and this is what we need

Gus did win the hit outs and he continually hit it straight to Boyd or he hit it the Bulldogs way.

1/ We need a mobile ruck option - Gus is not (at this stage) able to ruck more than 10mins a 1/4.

2/ Grigg should have been moved into the midfield onto Boyd.

3/ From the time Deledio moved into the middle we outscored the Dogs

Gus is really a 2nd or 3rd string ruckman at this stage and will be for the next 4 years and maybe for his whole career.

Its not that he's a soft target or that he doesnt try BIG fella, its his lack of skills in the ruck pure & simple.
The kid has to learn to tap it to advantage or heaven forbid punch the bloody thing.

I reckon Gus's biggest problem is confidence judging by some of his centre square attempts - if you can call them attempts??

Been saying it all season but Graham is the most uncoordinated footballe in the AFL. HE jsuts looks out of place. He reminds of the slow gangly ruckmen rom the 70's and 80's eras. Not a modern day ruckman. Browne has earnt a spot through multiple good performances for Coburg and I belive it is time he gets given a shot. Would have to be an improvement surely. Please!!!!!

The only thing saving Graham is that Derickx has been injured and Browne is slower, less mobile and has a shorter vertical leap than Graham. Anyone defending him for working his @ss off is joking himself. If he was running hard the other way and constantly making himself a target in the fwd line and actually taking marks, thus punishing the opposition ruckman, then yes he would be running hard. He doesn't even look at the ball when at the ruck contest. When he eventually does win a hit out is goes straight to the opposition onballers 95% of the time. When Vickery goes into the ruck even with his smaller frame he actually knows were to tap and its usually to our advantage.

Sorry, but he is at the moment the worst ruckman in the AFL.

graham actually did a good job winning the hitouts yesterday. 29-22 against hudson. as clumsy as he style looks it worked yesterday.
where he taps are going is another story. struggled to direct many to advantage yesterday. tho the midfielders do need to wear plenty of the blame for the dogs easy clearances. there were plenty of 50/50 balls that ended with the doggies running away with it.
