Alex Rance

He is becoming a very important player for us. I think is close to our most improved this year. Will be an attacking defender for us for the next 10 years.

Couldnt agree more.

Na I reckon he's making himself into a long term gun fullback. Realyl rating his efforts and improvement this season. Started ot show it end of last season this season making htat position his own. Too harshly judged on this site.

Not the finished product yet, but coming along nicely.

Yeah, that is my stance. Has time on his side. Just needs to keep getting better.

He did ok again today IMO, but needs help down back. Oh for a Harry Taylor type @ CHB :help Maybe Ben Griffith

Rance was good, Goodes had no influence although shanked a number of shots. I agree that his rebounding is his best attribute, his defensive work is improved but still shaky. Would probably excel in a 3rd tall role where he had less accountability and down the track could see him raking up 25 touches a game and setting up many, many attacks. As for the example before, already better than O'Brien IMO (he's massively overrated).

Rance was absolutely slaughtered by both Goodes & the kid Reid early, provided little in the way of a contest and I don't see how he can be credited for their poor conversion. Some of his non- efforts in the first half were quite laughable at times. Was better in the second half on the rebound, which is where he's improved mostly, still severely lacking at times in his main role though which is defending the ball coming in and stopping his direct opponents from marking and creating goals.

Unusual player - good build but doesn't seem to have a leap, nor much judgement full stop when it comes to aerial contests. Has a low centre of gravity which gives him good speed and ground skills for a big fella. Still only played ~30 games and will surely be a player given his improvement this year. Just not sure what type of player.

He struggles when he has to wait on the ball and body his opponent and he did get beaten in some marking duels in the first half for sure . This is the major weakness he still has .
His 2nd half was massive yesterday , very very good . His run , spoiling and tackling was first class . It has to be remembered he played the majority of the 2nd half on Goodes , a duel brownlow medallist . He smacked him after halftime .
Sydney also hardly took a contested mark in the forward line after halftime which was what was killing us early.

agree.

Sucks that Astbury went down. Wasn,t really enjoying the Richmond backline today sanswithout McGuane. We would have Won today with Luke in the side
Edited for accuracy.

Rance was really gutted at the after match function - made a few comments about how upset he was with his mistakes - then leppa took the mike and reminded everyone how young these guys are and how difficult it is for kids of this age to hold concentration for a whole game - mistakes will happen (school boy errors was mentioned) but from a coaching view the guys are learning from every game

His spoling technique seems to involve literally blanketing his opponents with his whole body rather than a leap and punch Grimes style.

Had a quick chat To Rance and Nahas at the after match function.. ok I hassled them to be accurate.
Rance didnt know we were calling him Sir Rancealot... Leppa is a straight shooter. Bloody good value is a chat with Leppa. He can't be far away from a Hall of Fame gig surely?

Good year of development but I dont think we will tell if he will be a long term player for us until next year. He needs to still get better. If he stays at this level he won't be here in 3 years time. I believe he can get better. Just needs to be more consistent and sound in decision making.
