Watch the game again!! why? without Rance our backline would really struggle ATM...

You need to stop using Rance as the sole reason we lost.. Rance was clearly in our top 5 best..

Move on and have the guts to name the bigger top line players that under performed..

But it should probably be noted that saying we had a "Top 5" is like saying we had a couple who really played well and the other 2 are simply named there because its mandatory to name 5 players....... :hihi

Doesn't mean they were actually "Best" at anything other than 18 other very poor Tiger players.

Without Rance our backline would have conceded less goals throughout the season - especially last night.

His simple errors like holding Schulz in a marking contest, Phillips turning him inside out, spilling a mark backwards for a soccer goal, not being able to kick 10 meters to a standing teammate are goals conceded from memory without even trying to recall the others.

Regardless of who our top 5 players are and how they performed in last nights match Rance's errors put simply placed the rest of the team under undue pressure.

And maybe with some/more/any defensive pressure from our midfield would have seen less balls flying down the backline.
Some people see only what they want to, but the reality is that Cotchin, Martin, Grigg, Conca, Jackson etc were overall, touched up by the opposition and barely put any emphasis on the defensive aspect to helping out the backline.
It's not about laying the blame on any one backman, it's a collective effort that gets the job done. Last night we had too many culprits. Just a poor performance overall, with possibly 2 exceptions. Coaching Staff & Match Committee included. An experience we need to learn from.

Well said Willo. The backline were on a hiding to nothing once the midfield preformed a complete no show (outside foley and Houli).

Only the likes of Allybaby would be singling Rance out for the lose. Yes he had a bad day, but he was far from our worst, and we lost the game in the guts, not the backline.

Tough night for the backs last night. Rance still learning to consistently execute his skills, but has courage and a will to compete. I'm prepared to give him more time. He is frustrating to watch as he has been up and down the last 4 weeks. Good against Fremantle and Essendon, poor against WB and last night.

just when i think he can be a great player for us he goes and does silly things just like the last 1/4 last night. Not smart enough to think through a game.

should be told if you get it bang it long along the boundary or hand off to someone with more composure.

played a blinder last week but a pathetic game this week

try watch a game then pal...

he looks like a great kick. just puts it to the wrong spots too often.

Its ok hitting a target when ya not under preassure. I could do that too.

we had a chance to win and he coughed it up more than once when we needed him to hit a target.

couldnt hit conca 10 meteres away in the last 1/4?

doesnt matter how good/bad you are. you NEVER miss those targets

What an absolute garbage statment, Rance is one of the reason we have 4 wins. he is our backline ATM.

His simple errors like holding Schulz in a marking contest,

80% of backman do it!! and get away with it

Phillips turning him inside out, spilling a mark backwards for a soccer goal

Jesus is that because they were the only 2 down there due to maybe a simple turn over up the field by our midfield??

Not being able to kick 10 meters to a standing teammate

Yes he did that once last night, but i recall him hitting targets after winning contests and then drilling a team mate futher up the ground a few times.
But it's amazing how we find that one!!

are goals conceded from memory without even trying to recall the others.

No idea what sh!t you are talking here!!

Regardless of who our top 5 players are and how they performed in last nights match Rance's errors put simply placed the rest of the team under undue pressure.

So all of a sudden the backline is exclude in the top 5 on the weekend :hihi

Mate it is really amazing how you can use Rance as a scape goat.

Rance was 2nd BOG last week and against freo.

PS Aliti learn how to quote because it looks like a dogs breakfast ( Are you sure you do not belong to bomberblitz?)

Was awful last night but you cannot hang him out on that.

Had no support from the midfield and missed Dylan Grimes.

It's going to be a different backline without Ironfist.

Shocking game and whilst I was calling for his head during the game (as I imagine most Tiger supporters were) he's done enough this year to keep his spot - I'm sure the coaching staff will point out the learnings from last night and he'll get better.

Our back line really must be in bad shape when we crtically miss a rookie whose claim to fame is spoiling :hihi

He wasn't the reason we lost, but he made about 10 errors in the defensive 50. The conditions where shocking and we tried to play dry weather football in what was more like playing terrential rain.

Was by far our best key back yesterday.
Our forward and mids let us down yesterday not our backs.

Jack can not take a mark to save himself and just looks to take mark of the year every week.
He needs to pull his head in and start taking a arks on the lead.

Agree with this. JAck gets some goals from playing from behind, but it is frustrated always seeing him rather take a contested mark in a contest.

I am A BIG FAN of Rance playing on a mid sized forward on the back flank where he can use his speed to spoil a lead up player with the ball coming in hard and flat and he can use his run and carry to be the one who receives the kick out from the pressure corridor. He also is a big unit to be flying 3rd man up and has speed to get to contests to help out the other Key backs like Grimes was doing. Also, any minor misjudgments that result in soft free kicks, and there are usually a couple a game, are generally 80m from goal and still rely on another 2 possessions before costing us a scoring opportunity.

I am DEFINITELY NOT A FAN of Rance playing as a KPP where he usually gives away height to a less mobile, stronger marking forward who runs and jumps at a longer higher ball. Where he does not get to use his speed as often in marking contests instead he is asked to body up on someone while judging the high ball which appears to be his worst attribute. He still has shown absolutely no ability to judge the ball in the air enough to stay off his taller opponent and just run and jump on them to spoil which is necessary. He also does not get to use his run and carry as effectively and is not composed enough to be the one who is in the pressure corridor giving the outlet kick. And any minor misjudgments that result in soft free kicks are generally set shots from the corridor costing us a high % scoring opportunity for the opposition, in other words, usually goals.

In my opinion Rance has some excellent attributes that if utilized accordingly could make him a very effective 3rd tall. With Grimes and Kelvin Moore being out for the season and no other decent 3rd tall backs available I hope they put him in that role and bring in Post or Astbury to play CHB. I don't care that we may lose some run and carry by playing Astbury or Post there. They would eliminate a bad match up.

Rance got away with it against Essendon because Essendon brought the ball in poorly and he had Grimes to help. Now, he will be exposed every week. God help him on a short SCG if the Swans try to isolate him with a tall.

Yeah he turned it over a few times too many. So did the whole team. We average 106 turnovers a game. This time it was 130.

On the year so far, he's top 15 for 1%ers (this stat is mostly spoils and dominated by backmen). Of the top 100 players in that category, Rance leads them all for marks. Not only that but he's 19th (in the league) for rebound 50's (we all know he provides good run from defense) as well as having an excellent ratio of kicks to advantage/kicks to opposition. Shame there's not a stat for courage too, because he'd be top 5 in that, easily.

Give him a bit more development and a midfield that isn't getting flogged at the clearances every week (and one that puts a bit of pressure on the opposition occasionally) and he'll be a very valuable player IMHO.
