I'm not sure you have a classic FF/CHF anymore, and therefore the same CHB/FB.

Way i see it the best teams change from week to week. Some weeks you have a more mobile FF to match up on and some weeks a monster, stay at home one. Likewise with CH(despite a stay at home CHF being a oxymoron almost).

I can see Thursfield and Rance alternating when required. I can't see Thursfield ever handling a Gehrig, but I've been suprised at how well he plays on Llyod, and we all know Riewoldt he matches well on.

Likewise, I can't see Rance handling Riewoldt. But I can see him handling Gehrig, Hall and company.

Agree.

Rance will do well on a not so mobile 193/4cm forward.
As you said, he's not for the Nick Reiwoldts.

I still reckon we need a consistant mobile strong 195/6cm defender, on the list, as an option against opposition tall forwards.

Guys I have asked this question before but can somebody name all these 195+ Key defenders that are a must in defence

wouldnt say a must but theirs a few

thurstans, merrett, egan, fletcher etc

not necassarily just for the key forwards but you need that tall option in defence for the opposition resting ruckman and so on

There are none. Well perhaps a couple but it's not all that necessary if you have a strong body around 193cm.

If it's a required matchup Pattison can go into defence.

I also agree. This is why I posted eslewhere (though not nearly as succinctly) that I felt if we had had pick 19, we really needed to back up Rance immediately with another decent young KPD.

Agree with the first part but Patto could not possible play in defence. Mobile strong 195+cm defenders don't really exist.

Re: Rance - A full back at Richmond

Very interesting article on the Herald Sun website regarding the Bulldogs draft day. A snippett below....

(In regard to Jarrad Grant)"He's better than all right. He's extraordinarily good," Clayton says.

So there's nothing that can stop you getting Grant? Who's Plan B if someone nabs him?

Alex Rance, son of former Bulldog Murray and a dashing key defender, is mentioned as a possible option at No. 5.

To read the whole artice.......

Re: Rance - A full back at Richmond

grant is a reach, myers and palmer are better options but because of the dogs list they had to go best tall, good luck to grant though saw an interview with him at draft camp and he barracks for the tiges and loves richo :)

imagine we passed on rance and the dogs picked him up with the same pick we traded for mcmahon :-[

thank god it didnt happen

Re: Rance - A full back at Richmond

What about Henderson? Wasn't he a better KP option than Grant whom I didn't hear much about until draft day? According to Michael Turner Henderson could be as good as Pavlich.

Re: Rance - A full back at Richmond

IMO Rance is ready to go next year. More physically developed than both Thursfield and McGuane, and our lack of genuine big men in defence will have Rance fast tracked. He's a big boy and he'll do OK. Looks like Simmonds with his physical appearance and movement. Cat like agility though.

Dpends on the pre-season for me. I wouldn't fast track him just to fast track him, don't want to throw him to the wolves too early. I still think he will play 8-12 games.

Matt Egan.---> :wave

Seriously though I think their numbers will increase in the near future with guys like Hansen, Mackenzie and Tom Williams all looking likely types.

Agree

Thirsty played some quality games in his first year. Rance, who is much better developed and has a stronger footy background has to be a good chance to play 10+ games.

Spot on. He has only played a couple of senior WAFL games, and he was promising, not dominating. It is a big step up from WAFL fullback to AFL fullback, and he is most likely going to need time to adjust.

there are very few. The gun full backs/CHBs are usually 191-193cm and strong. Michael, Scarlett, Glass, Rutten, Hunter, etc. It is the exception that is over 195cm.

I expect better from "Mr Exhibit A" Patsy. ;D
