Alex Rance

Re: Rance - A full back at Richmond

Getting Rance will take a lot of pressure of Thirsty and free him up to play on players he is suited to such as Cloke, Robinson, Reinvoldt and co.

He probably breathed a sigh of relief when he heard Rances name called out. ;D

Agree Gus.

Thursty Polak and Rance down back already looks a whole heap better.

That is if he comes on as hoped of course..

Have faith oldie. The planets are starting to align in our favour. Taken 27 bloody years, but KB you started something this week. Keep it rolling. ;D

Re: Rance - A full back at Richmond

Rance just pushes everyone down a spot in size ,while increasing the footskills and football ablity coming out of the backline. He is a natural footballer.

He already is the most solid and well built player in our backhalf.

Must have been some sort of reason why he slid?

I don't see it like that. Dramatic slips, Like Connors, yes. But while I thought he would go 7 - 12, specialist KP (even more so specialist full back) rarely go high in draft. Especially when he didn't test exceptionally (by Top 20 standards for a KP).

Nearly every recruiter recruits best available in Top 20. More often than not. Very hard for a specialist full back to compete against that unless they tear the tests apart.

Way I see it, most clubs didn't need a full back as badly as us and in the few cases that did there was a better available player and they took the safe option.

Don't get me wrong, I did a back flip when we got Rance and was chanting his name in anticipation before the call...but he is NOT safe option.

On this...credit to Port Adeliade for putting their balls on the chopping block and not choosing a safe option compared to other available players.

Pears was a little over rated by many in my view.

Rance is an absolute bargain for mine.Genuine footballers footballer.Capable of holding down a key position and looks to me the type of tall player you can fast track as Thursty was.Might not play next year but 2009 i wouldn't be suprised if he's our regular full back.

Not the fastest bloke going around but should be able to play on the Barry Hall types eventually. With any luck may turn out similar to Ben Rutten.

Funnily enough the thought I had as i got in the car after the Casey fields championship games was if we got Cotchin and then Rance at 18 that would be the ideal result. Can't believe it's actually turned out that way.

Agreed.

Further on my last post. That was the main strike against Rance against say N. Brown last year. His speed.

Personally I think he is going to be just as good as Rutten if not better.

We've had enough X-Factor for one lifetime DD.

Re: Rance - A full back at Richmond

I'm not sure if Rance is going to be a FB.

But he may just be a very good CHB for us though.

Will can take the faster, more mobile talls, rather than the gehrigs and halls.

Exactly Rosy. These days you need two very different key backs. One for the monsters (Rance vs Hall, Gehrig, etc) and one for the freaks (Thursfield vs Riewoldt, Pavlich etc)

I'm not sure you have a classic FF/CHF anymore, and therefore the same CHB/FB.

Way i see it the best teams change from week to week. Some weeks you have a more mobile FF to match up on and some weeks a monster, stay at home one. Likewise with CHF's (despite a stay at home CHF being a oxymoron almost).

I can see Thursfield and Rance alternating when required. I can't see Thursfield ever handling a Gehrig, but I've been suprised at how well he plays on Llyod, and we all know Riewoldt he matches well on.

Likewise, I can't see Rance handling Riewoldt. But I can see him handling Gehrig, Hall and company.

He's a full back in the classic sense of the word.
Strong bodied key defender. The type we haven't had for some time. 8)

Comparisons are with Darren Glass. That'll do me.

Where do people see Will playing if Alex is full back?

Willt T will play where he is best suited for the next few years - 3rd tall.

Having Will in this pozzy will become a luxury for the Tigers.

Rance :fing32

Moore :thumbdown

Poor ol Kel wont be getting to many games in 08.

As soon as hes ready and had time to adjust and comfortable, Rance will usurp McGuane and Moore quite easily and quickly.

Late 70's and Early 80's was when i used to follow the WAFL. Michael, Rioli, Rance, Narkle... the list goes on and on. To me that was a golden era for the sandgropers.

Wasn't it narkle that wore that bizarro helmet for a while ???
