AFLW Brisbane v Richmond Qualifying Final 5 November 2022

With Cordner hopefully back next year, I'm hoping we can work in the off season in getting Shevlin onto a wing. She's a good kick of the footy, tough and runs all day. Reckon she'd be excellent for us on the outside of the midfield if we can get the defence to cover without her.

I wouldn't mind having Sheeran in the midfield

Same here. Her long kicking into 50 will be dangerous, she can stop defenders pushing as high, knowing that she can kick over the top. She looked good in that last quarter when played further up the ground.

I don't mind being beaten by a better team, but the way we're umpired differently is beyond frustrating.

Brisbane look very good, their ability to feed the ball out to outside runners, when they weren't getting a free, was impressive. Ability to extract the ball and accurately handpass to a runner was well beyond what we could do.

Still, we made top 4, so we got the double chance.

The umpiring was putrid. Lions clearly coached to let go of the ball when tackled because they never got pinged once, and in fact we got a free against for holding. Happened numerous times. Took our tackling game away from us. Their first goal from a 50 metre penalty was a joke. As our player handed them the ball they let it drop to the ground and was paid the 50. Absolute joke. I’m so pissed off.

We've definitely got to dirty it up, if those big forwards get nice looks they will keep destroying us.

Very hard game to play for 4 quarters though.

Don't know where you are getting that from Tigermike. Any player can take the advantage after a free kick and in the men's competition there are many, many instances where another player crumbs and kicks a goal when a free has been called.
Yes, my understanding of the advantage rule was not correct but is it fair when everyone has stopped and a different player has the ball? Rules should have a sense of fairness and this one doesn't imo.

That last quarter is the quarter we needed to have. We were there or there abouts with the Lions and if we can carry that into next week we should be too strong.

McKenzie has a decent high grab on her. Don't see too many AFLW players who can get a ride from their opponent like she can.

It is amazing how a few holding the ball decisions can transform a game.

A player falls to the ground in a tackle and pushes the ball away. Play on. No free to anyone.
A player falls to the ground in a tackle and pushes the ball away. Incorrect disposal. Free to the tackler.
A player falls to the ground in a tackle and pushes the ball away. Tackle lingered too long. Free to the ball carrier.

It is out of control in AFLW because the umps are bit more lenient and make more allowances for skill errors. Then they make these 50/50 calls.

I actually like the way they often give the players a decent amount of prior opportunity in the women's game, it encourages grabbing the ball rather than paddling or soccering it forward. But the way they let players drop the ball as they are about to be tackled is a joke, needs to be stamped out.

Also saw another instance of a player with the ball having received a free kick being tackled instantly as they try to play on, by an opponent who is right next to them and is not the player on the mark. It happened to one of our defenders in the last quarter and the opponent should not have been that close. Yes, the Richmond player should have had more awareness, but this is rife and also happens in the men's game too, the best example I saw was that incident with Gawn and Balta earlier this year. There needs to be a lot more clarity on this.

We'll see who we get next week,I hope we get Geelong as I reckon we're a decent chance of winning, especially the way we played the last quarter today. Haven't seen the coach's press conference yet but that would be my focus, the way they played in the last was very good and we need to be aiming to get to that level for most of the game next season.

Nice to see them in the finals and great to have the double chance.

Lions a bit better across the park today. Clearances in the 2nd Q killed us.
Umps assisted their momentum at times.
But we weren't far off it. We had the fumbles.
Take a few more marks and get some linking handballs going and things will look better ..
Last Q was good
