AFLW Brisbane v Richmond Qualifying Final 5 November 2022

Play on is usually called if the player who has been awarded mark or free kick has the ball and shows the intention play on, but in this case a different player had the ball....and closer to goal! Perhaps an inexperienced umpire but that is not an excuse for not knowing the rules.
Corn Flakes packet style.

Maybe, but I thin Ferg will challenge the midfield. For a contested bal team (we kept it contested in the 1st quarter and looked good), they smashed us around the ball that quarter and could then hurt us on the outside.

We were going to be a chance if we could keep it contested, but if they got it out wide it would be super hard for us. Need to get back to the contest and win the ball out of the middle which we didn't do that quarter.

We've definitely got to dirty it up, if those big forwards get nice looks they will keep destroying us.

Very hard game to play for 4 quarters though.

Don't know where you are getting that from Tigermike. Any player can take the advantage after a free kick and in the men's competition there are many, many instances where another player crumbs and kicks a goal when a free has been called.

We're being well beaten and the stats would have us further behind. But we're still having a crack and that's what we need here. Keep fighting no matter what the score.

This is the best team in the league for a reason. Learn from this week and make amends next week.

Umpiring is, um, interesting at best.

If all players stop, it shouldn't be an advantage especially 30m out of the goals.

Feels like the Lions have an extra 2 players on the ground, numbers everywhere

These holding the man frees are killing us. One way only by the umps. Take that spell there, Cox is trying to clear our D50, clearly held without being in possession, you see the shirt pulled away from her, no free. Couple of clearances, and the ball bounces towards our D50, holding the man (looked very minor) paid against Conti. The umpires seem to only be paying this one way.

Plus HOW THE *smile* WAS THAT "LATE HIT" PAID AS A DOWNFIELD. She hit her at the same time as she disposed of the ball. FFS learn the rules.

Agree, umps rarely call play on with such a long pause. I went and made a coffee and when I came back she still hadn't played on.

That free against Yassir, Lions have done that 15 times without a free against

Umps have lost the plot.

And dancing whilst on the mark is another terrible look

Looks like we play the Pussies or lolnorf at home next week. We'll meet the Paddle Pops where it really matters for the GF.

Think it will be Lions/Dees granny.
Daylight between them and the 3rd best team.

Yeah i think you are right and I think most would have expected that.

This game shows where we need to improve. If we can keep the game contested we can stay in the game, but the area where we have struggled all year is being strong enough and dynamic enough on the outside. The difference between our outside game and Brisbanes is immense.

We've had a massive jump up this season in our ability to compete, its continuing to grow that and develop the ball movement to go with it that will determine where this team goes over the coming years.
