AFL Player Dies in Las Vegas

really puts things into perspective when tragedies like this happens, feel sorry for his parents who have lost their son .

Yep, this.

As a father i just cannot imagine what his parents are going through right now. I find myself thinking about it and just sigh in disbelief. No parent should have to go through this. Just so young...

RIP John.

any clues as to what happened? from what i believe i heard, the port players weren't staying at the flamingo, hence thats why they were separated, correct? and apparently he spoke to his gf a couple of hours before the tragedy happened and sounded a bit scattered.

interesting to note that caroline wilson in todays age named the retired former west coast player who OD'ed and nearly died in vegas a few years ago... does this mean we can now name him on here?

If you wish to name him got for it. There are several references already if you do a search.

That would be suprising. He was by himself. Doesn't sound like something you would do when you don't have other stupid mates in your ear pushing you on!

Not saying its not true of course, just would be suprising..

All the innuendo coming out in the media is suggesting he was disorientated and didn't know what he was doing or, heaven forbid, I don't think we can rule out suicide either. His uncle said he had a tough 12 months, he was in an emotional state when he spoke to his g/f a couple of hours before.

I think skylarking has been ruled out as has criminal activity involving a second person.

Toxicology reports will not be released to the public. God forbid if he was under some serious stuff, does the family open up and tell the world in the effort to deter others?

You know, it doesn't matter what he was on if anything. Be it hard drugs, soft drugs and alcohol, the fact is he's a young male on a boys trip away. What he may have partaken in is pretty much normal behavior in those circumstances.

The tradegy is that he was left alone in an incapacited state and an accident of the worst kind has happened.

The teammates who were with him in LA will need as much, if not more support, than his family at the moment.

I don't know any more than anyone else but as I said on the other thread it's possible for one person to do something many others do regularly and just have a really bad reaction.

Agree Baloo.
That's the number one lesson to be taken from this.
As someone else said, look after your mates especially in an unfamiliar environment.

Yes apparently they got separated in a nightclub queue everyone else got in but him, and he must have wandered off. Eddie McGuire apparently saying this morning that the cctv footage shows him trying to leap into a palm tree to get down off the roof.

maybe there was some sort of drunken bet/dare by someone (a non-teammate) downstairs suggesting he climb up to the 3rd floor roof and jump onto one of the palm trees?

Yer good point, bit of a worry that he rang his GF only a few hours before disorientated etc and she was worried enough to ring other players partners to try and get in contact with the other players at the time to find him. Either way its such a waste of a young life and very sad.

Given reports of his ph call to his girlfriend in a not so good state you would doubt his mates would be daring him to some sort of stunt, well you would hope not anyway

All the signs point to drugs, which I hope it isn't. But if it is, then it's going to get messy and awkward for the teammates.

There now reporting that he was in the XS club at WYN casino with all the other players and left on his own accord but no one knew he had left.
