AFL Player Dies in Las Vegas

I jumped from a 3rd story once...under the influence of alchohol of course...

we should wait until the story comes out in due course however. we all are just speculating.

Doesnt matter how it happened, the poor bugger is gone.

RIP John..

By the way, alcohol is a factor in many, many deaths. Deaths by accident, violence, and suicide. Many more than are caused by illicit drugs. It's completely feasible that alcohol was all that he had consumed - but the toxicology will confirm this or not.

What part sounds like a panic attack ?

Got separated from his mates because he was too p!ssed (classic drunk move)
Wandered around aimlessly trying to find a) his hotel or b) a place that would let him in (classic drunk move)
Started getting depressed because he couldnt find either of the above (classic drunk move)
He called his girl in the middle of the night (classic drunk move)
Told her he missed her and wanted to be with her (classic drunk move)
Found himself somewhere he shouldn't be because he opened a wrong door (classic drunk move)
Got himself locked out (classic druk move)
Thought jumping onto a nearby palm tree and then shimmying down was the best option (classic drunk move)

When the first reports came out I did think drugs, either directly or a via psychotic episode wold have had somehthing to do with it. But as the reports have come out it looks more and more likely to me that he just drunk and made one too many alcohol induced wrong decisions.

Bar the palm tree from a 3rd stores bit, I've done what JMac seems to have done many times while solely drunk. I still have scars to prove it too.

Absolutely. Some of the stuff leysy did at that age equals any or all of the above. Circumstances conspired against JMac on this one.

Also reading that confirms what is the most likely to have happened.

BTW Baloo, geez you talk sense when Richmond arent involved. ;D

I guess everyone is different. When I was on the turps big time all I ever tried to do was find somewhere where I could get another drink.

Obviously I wasn't there and 10m is a fair drop but I suspect if he'd just tried to jump and hit the ground feet first he probably would've been better off...maybe lower body injuries like legs/ankles. The story that he got his leg caught and then fell...it's really not very nice to think about. Poor bugger. Either way he was unlucky in that he did something with a degree of risk and ended up paying the ultimate price when people do stupid things all the time and often get away with it or hurt themselves but nowhere near as badly. Hence the degree of risk. R.I.P.

Does anyone really think they should be drug tested in there 6 weeks off?

i think they shouldn't be tested for illicit drugs full stop. AFL social engineering at its best.

I think most people on here have summed it up pretty well. I look at the photos and the jump and think "What was he thinking?" knowing what happened. Then I think back to some of the stupid situations I've got myself into and some of the stupid things myself and others I know have done when we've been out on the p!ss.

i was very lucky in las vegas myself when I was there in 2008. it was 6-6:30am, i was p!ssed as a fart with a group of people. We went to cross at a major intersection… there were no cars in sight, so I decided to walk. Next thing I know is that someone grabs me in a bear hug and pulls me back. Then the cars stream past. Turns out I was looking in the wrong direction. I still don’t know to this day who pulled me back, but I can tell you that I would have been D-E-A-D dead.

I don't believe that he was just drunk. From the little info so far it sounds like he had some kind of a panic type reaction. Not something that is normally related to drink. Sounds more like a combination of substances to me.

lol. And you’ve never felt disorientated while on the drink? Turn it up. Once again people trying to make something out of nothing.

exactly. I can relate to pretty much all of that while on the drink.

Totally agree Ian, none of our business what they do in their spare time. What? They are role models, do I hear you say? So was Amy Winehouse, musical or sporting ability are not necessarily a good basis for making role models. I would love to knock on the door of all the TV personalities and journo's who bang on about drug testing players the day after the Logies and have them pee in a jar.

I sincerely hope whatever the outcome of this tragic situation that nobody uses it as a springboard for any agenda.

Yep agreed , guess everyones different though and handles booze differently.

Drink is a thing that is a part of footy unless you're a legend like Tommy Hafey.
I admit,I overdo the booze but I become a happy person when I'm drunk.

And sometimes you can feel invincible and overconfident when overly drunk.
Any way just upgraded my membership.

Will not be drinking much next year.

:hihi

Need a premiership to attend too and I need all the years I can muster.

Very well put mate. I've done some pretty stupid things on the gargle. And I'm ashamed to say well in excess of JMac'a young years.

Yeah it is tough to admit but Baloo is posting very well on this topic.

The only one that seems in dispute is that the door he went out was locked from the outside - normally those doors work in reverse in that they are locked from the inside but free swing from the outside. Haven't read anywhere that it is confirmed that the door in question was in any way locked.

Reckon the Hotel will change that little area - the photo in the HUN had an Exit sign with a arrow pointing to the door about a metre away yet the sign on the door said This is not an exit.
