AFL Awards

Such a poor side selected. Where Isaac Smith, Cam Guthrie, the Viking, Mitch Dunks, Flopper etc Its a joke

I'm sure they don't care.

FFS the rest of us couldn't give a shjt either, I didn't know this was happening until I saw this thread. AA blazers seem to be compensation for players without premiership medals.

Concur. MCG might be unavailable for some unknown reason transferred to KardiniaPark with Pussies in GF.

Interesting All-Australian side.
- Coleman medalist Curnow named in a pocket behind two Geelong players who finished 3rd and 4th in the Coleman race
- Lynch not even in the team despite finishing second in the Coleman medal with the highest per game goal average… OF THE DECADE!
- Maybe Lynch missed out because he only played 16 games? Then explain “good bloke” Stewart’s inclusion!?!?!
- Saad over anyone else in the league who played a quarter at half back this season?
- Rozee thoroughly deserved his spot. Kid was pretty much league MVP from round 5 onward.

I’m with you David. The angst about this makes me laugh. Obviously plenty of supporters care about this, but I doubt that many of the players, especially those playing finals, do. The Rising Star, the Coleman (really need one for defenders) those are things, and earned, but these are window dressing at best.

Sicily and Rioli over all of Saad, Steward and Maynard (seriously wtf?). Sicily is penalised for being in a crap team but since when does that matter since its an individual award?

Sinclair is fair enough, has had a great year.

don't really care about the Blazer Brigade, but ...

Tom Stewart and Steven May should not be there. This is a representative award.
These two - one on and one off the field - were not good examples.

Meh, let Geelong be the AA side, hopefully it ends the same with them failing to win the flag.

Dan has been stiffed not being selected on the back flank, was more influential than Sinclair and Saad.

I remember Sinclair playing midfield earlier this season, pretty sure he played there against us.

AA is a false reward for individuals. Geelong players treat it as their Grand Final win.
Probably explains why their players go on holidays after the awards every year

Fox Footy’s Gerard Whateley described Hawkins’ selection as captain as a “legacy piece”
What the *smile* is a "legacy piece"??? The guy has never been a captain in his life yet gets selected as captain in the supposed team of the year? Shouldn't even be in the team; Lynch has him covered on any metric this season.

Geez Mince is a *smile*. Just an absolute apologist and fan boy for the AFL and Geelong FC. I won't be listening but I hope callers to his radio show this morning give him hell for his unabashed Geelong bias.

Nah Maynard is a great player. Deserves his spot this year. But definitely agree on the other two.

Stewart plays 17 games and deliberately knocks out Richmond's best player earning a very lenient 4 week suspension but still gets in. Lynch plays 16 games finished second in Coleman and has the highest average goals per game but misses out to not one but two Geelong players.

How can anyone claim that is not Geelong bias?

Ignoring the Geelong bias for a minute. One key forward returned from injury late in the season and played a strong part in his team going on a winning streak and making the finals. another key forward couldnt buy a goal in his teams 2 most important games of the year, but cos he kicked 4 more goals in 4 more games he gets picked.

it should be clear to anyone with any idea who the most dominant forward in the game is, and it will be even clearer after the finals.

Yeah. Wasn’t there a year Dangerflop was named on the bench and was also captain?

I interpret Hawkins "legacy piece" to be a "gift", just like the Barilaro appointment.

Agree 100%. Curnow is massively overrated. His efforts against Melbourne and Collingwood were embarrassing.

Is Mincey calling for Jack Riewoldt's "legacy piece"?? He's played one more game than Shovekins and has kicked 30 odd more goals; plus has an additional flag. Not to mention having to spend the first 5-6 years of his career in one of the worst teams in the league. Shovekins has never head to play in a struggling team.
