They must be the only ones. From my point of view and others here it’s been an unqualified disaster.

Back this effort up with their call on their umpires n it's fairly obvious how well AFLHQ is functioning at the moment. Hate to disparage the poor imbeciles of the world but HQ is full of incompetent *smile* imbeciles.

Agree with you wholeheartedly TM. Incompetence personified by everyone involved in the HOF stuff-up and the umpiring. I'd add to that their response to gambling/racism/homophobia/sexism. *smile* me, if AFL house have the opportunity to stuff something up, read the room wrong, or just have ANFI about a topic they are supposed to be a leader in, you can be sure they will. The people that run the Mother's Day stall at my local primary school could probably do better job.

The AFL has emphatically backed its umpires and the decision to change to a four-person system in the face of fierce criticism about dropping standards.
A non-50m penalty call and a missed touched Collingwood’s Jack Crisp goal which cost North Melbourne on Sunday has prompted claims the game’s umpiring is in “disarray”.
But football boss Laura Kane defended the whistleblowers and the score review system as well as the introduction of a fourth umpire.
“It has been a really important development for us with four umpires because we have an extra set of eyes on the field,” Kane said.

We have an extra umpire that previously sat on the bench through that whole game to get experience, to get a game, to get an understanding of what it is like to be in the thick of it.
“It helps us diversify the umpiring pool but most importantly it helps us make better decisions because we have more people watching the game in real time who have incredible experience.
“We have ex umpires in our leadership team from a football perspective.
“It is something that we will continue to work on, coach and develop and make sure our umpires are in the right spot.
“But it has been a terrific development for us.”
The AFL has clarified the umpire was too late paying a mark in the Scott incident, which led to confusion from the Collingwood players who rushed at the Kangaroo in the final minute of the Pies’ win.
But Kane said there had not been any anguish about it from any clubs over the past two days.
“Clubs have a process where they can send in queries they have around umpiring decisions or rules, that is a really stock standard process that happens every week,” she said.

“We haven’t had any queries about it from clubs and we will respond to them if we do.”
The AFL also came under fire from St Kilda coach Ross Lyon about its endeavours to clarify and explain contentious decisions.
But Kane said the league would continue to be open about key decisions to help inform the public and the clubs.

"The really important part is to start with being transparent,” Kane said.
“That is the default setting for our football department. We want to make sure people understand what goes on behind the scenes.
“We want to make sure the fans understand what goes into decisions.”

Doesn't matter how many umpires are out there when they refuse to pay frees that happen right in front of them when they are staring straight at it.

It is a mess, and it is a mess because the AFL has this strange idea that less frees per game is a good idea. This leads to one thing: massive inconsistencies. Plus it actually contributes to congestion.

*smile* idiots.

Nor will you considering the fines and worse the AFL will impose on any club that criticizes the directives that come out of AFL House!

This garbage and these justifications of how well the state of football and umpiring is today is pure propaganda, with no connection to the truth.

North Korea would be impressed by the AFL’s capacity to suppress the truth while declaring how well things are going in football!!

Kane is well out of her depth.

Would love to see who missed out on the gig for her.

Kane is out of her depth, but I’m sure she’s just putting nice words around what her superiors at afl house are telling her, which is along to the lines of tell them to gagf.

I'd back there's a party line she's just parroting for the public. It's the way the AFL has worked for years. Anytime there's controversy, empty platitudes and not much else.
I've never thought there was any point to this stuff, as they only admit to the blindly obvious mistakes and justify everything else in their favour.

This makes sense -

We have an extra umpire that previously sat on the bench through that whole game to get experience, to get a game, to get an understanding of what it is like to be in the thick of it.
“It helps us diversify the umpiring pool but most importantly it helps us make better decisions because we have more people watching the game in real time who have incredible experience.
Which one is it Laura??

And on the below -

But Kane said there had not been any anguish about it from any clubs over the past two days.
“Clubs have a process where they can send in queries they have around umpiring decisions or rules, that is a really stock standard process that happens every week,” she said.

“We haven’t had any queries about it from clubs and we will respond to them if we do.”

What point is there to a club raising questions to an organisation that comes out and every weekend and ticks off every "controversial" decision?

Where is the humility in this organisation?

Part of the facade was to get Laura Kane as a mouthpiece and she's fluffing her lines.
