Adem Yze

times have changed
Remember Tony Jewell saying he would take potential coaches to the pub for the interview. If they didn’t have a beer then he thought there was something wrong with them.
Automatic fail.

watched it live this morning and I now can’t wait for next season.

reckon Dusty for captain and there will be some change although I reckon it will more around intensity, game plan and maybe skills.

I loved how they used the word drift and needing to get back on course - I loved the brutal honesty - they could call out what we could all see but not name.

To me they have their feet firmly on the ground and I can see a possible lift even next year, they are hungry- something maybe Dimma lost.

An early litmus test for me would be to see whether he can 'flick the switch' with players like Cumberland and Miller, who've had us scratching our heads a bit with a huge gap between their best and their worst.

Not sure I asked the question correctly but I think you are saying Yze finished 2nd to Brad Scott at essendon.
If that is the case then he was 2nd to Kingsley and to Brad Scott and Essendon were in reality always looking for an experienced head coach.
He has been in the mix for others I suspect.
These fields are pretty competitive and in some ways it depends on whether a coach suits a club as well.
I wouldn’t read too much into it tbh
Correct...If you remember back then it was 99% Yze's job until Brad Scott got "asked" to apply (from the AFL?) and it was then a lay down misere for Scott.

Hardwick's hunger was for something else

The enthusiasm that he has for the job was obvious to all I think. He looked genuinely stoked to be in this position.

I think we can lift next year too. I was bullish about our chances in 2023 and was largely proven wrong but I think that was down to 4 things.
1 - A drop off in workrate standards
2 - The loss of Lynch really unstabilised our forward line and created a structure that made it hard to score
3 - Defensively we looked older
4 - Our midfield at times looked slow

I think we can bounce strongly by fixing these core issues.
1 - I reckon Yze fixes this one sharpish
2 - Fingers crossed Lynch is fit for the start of the year, moon boot is now off, lets hope the bone has healed properly this time. Kozi will help to straighten us up
3 - The return of Gibcus is very much a part of this
4 - The hardest part to fix, but I reckon part of this will come down to ball movement, slick ball movement makes you look quicker than pure foot speed does. It will be interesting to see what Yze does here, but I reckon some players will be switched around. I quite like the idea of Rioli into the midfield in some capacity, maybe the wing. Yze teams in the past have had good kicking wingmen or those that have speed (Isaac Smith, Langdon etc) so maybe a move for Rioli into the midfield to be a first receiver out of the stoppage, Bolton perm midfield would help here too, maybe even Dow, if his ain job is to extract the ball, evade and then handball to a player coming through. Positional changes in the pre-season will be very interesting. Caesar, make sure you are rested up, pre-season looks like a big one for you :)

There’s an element of risk with Yze which I actually love.

I’ve always been a fan of x-factor - in players, tactics, coaches, administration. I don’t think you win flags without it.

If - IF - Yze is as tactically gifted as he is renowned to be then we are in for a serious, serious ride.

Love the appointment.
Part of the reason I really loved how Phil Walsh hit senior coaching... a little left of centre. Reckon he would have taken them all the way had he still been with us.:(

Absolutely. We can trust Scoop. If he says Yze is definitely the new coach then Yze is definitely the new coach. There is no way he would lie to us about such an important matter.

Scoop would not lie to us.

And no lie was spoken.

I'm pumped for 2024!

Btw how good is it to take a little limelight off tonight's game

Very good apprenticeship as many saying. Hopefully he is a better game day tactician than Hardwick.

imo the key to future success will be his assistants, their individual responsibility and messaging will be paramount.

Hardwick walked away from the opportunity to rebuild for another crack already having a residual of premiership players on the list.

As much as I dislike Sheedy he built 3 different premiership teams over 3 different decades using the residual approach.

Adem inherits a list not quite so bad as many here suggest imo. He now gets an incredible chance with a playing group that has tasted success.

All my interest now turns to his appointment of assistants.

btw I will be intrigued how his relationship with Neil Balme develops.
I thought Hardwick benefitted immensely by Balme coming on board.
Balme and yze were at Melbourne at the same time

If GWS win tonight, my summer will be made!!
Not orange enough but it will be good times!

Cumberland yes we all saw what he could do back end of 2022 (18 goals from 7 games). Never seen a coach like Dimma talk about a player more so negatively. Then Mini Dimma not playing him also, when he did play this year i thought wow whats happened to this player has lost all confidence. Cumbers is only 22, under Yze think he will rise again and show his true talent.

Miller on the other hand, is skilful but doesn't have that killer instinct and so not sure how he'll go but for such a big man he just doesn't impose himself enough.
Kosi who will get to Richmond is a big unit 198cms and will assist lynch and can pinch hit in the ruck too.
