Acceptance - we are now a middling side

Far from it.

Two back flankers, a wing and a change mid. You won’t get deals done for all of them but you might get two done. If Broad goes, keep Vlastuin. We drafted Banks and Brown as back flankers. Maybe Banks can do the Short role. Maybe Steely Green can do 75% of the Graham role. You’ve got to do something yo change the list build. You can’t keep everyone.

Trade while there’s value. Short at the Dogs, Pies or Cats would kill it. Same with Vlastuin at Essendon, Swans or Dees.
I’d love to trade into this draft

If your not brave enough to back what you would still have minus one flanker, one winger and a mid who is 15-22 in your side then we are in worse shape than you think. Would bring in picks and tidy up your cap as well. Can’t just sit around and wait. So losing one of Broad/Vlastuin, Short and Graham is a rebuild?
There is brave and there is ripping the fabric out of your team.

Even by trading in you are probably only to get a pick in the 20-30 range, Short valued at a mid second, Graham 30-40, Broad about the same. Three picks bundled might get a mid teens pick, I doubt very much as high as the Hopper pick however. I'd probably back myself to fix some issues with a spread perhaps resembling the Sonsie /Clarke/Banks selections. Given clubs have been trading into 2023 you would be paying overs to trade up, probably only one quality talent using all the draft capital. Clarke needs think & plan carefully, he needs the luck of Bolton this year, it's not impossible but we haven't seen too much visionary recruitment for 5 years now.

hey i resemble that guy.
i just want it clear i think nank has been enormous for the club with the heart of a lion.
i cant believe the punishment his body has absorbed.
but whats the point of a megadollar midfield if the game plan isnt to give them the best oppurtunity.?

What area(s) do you feel Nank lacks in?

What player types would you be looking at with those picks mate? I’d be thinking a key forward an big bodied mid with speed and potentially another key defender or ruck prospect? Keep in mind we will most likely be picking up Charlie Naish who is potentially a handy forward/mid/wing.

If the club read PRE they would be thinking about shutting the doors and closing the joint down.

Unbelievable.

Look at what Collingwood did.

We can tread the line of competing with what we have and start building for the next run. Yes, Cotch and Jack will be gone at years end as well but being brave is what is required. If we do nothing of what I suggested then what happens next year? We role with the same list minus Jack and Cotch plus one or two easy delistings. We've got two picks inside 50 as it stands. Maybe one more if Broad goes. That doesn't do anything to give us a better chance of winning next year or speed up the next tilt.

Let Broad walk, you keep Vlaustin, throw Graham and Short on the table see what you get. You can trade back into the first round with minimal impact.

In our range we'll probably get a sniff of a ruck/forward, that would be in that Barnett region, the only problem with this approach is that we had the opportunity to plant some seeds last year and with minimal outlay. Walking away with a Keeler/Verrall combo would have nailed down a couple of project talls, allowing us to focus on other areas. The year before we could have grabbed some more mids instead of trading, it just seems like a game of catch-up the past few years.

The vibe I'm getting from this draft is that the top end talent is looking like 2018, Reid is probably your Sam Walsh with Moir and a few others making up the Rankines, Rozees & Butters. It's a bit lighter on for tall talent, although you really have to wait for state football before making a call on any key position prospects. A few glimpses here & there can be enough (see Marshall) so let's just hope there's a diamond in the rough.

Collingwood traded out because of poor list management. Poor example IMO.

I cant see how trading out those blokes fast tracks our next tilt. None of those blokes gets us near the top 10 in terms of draft picks. We already have the nucleus of good youth coming through.

For me its free agency we need to go hard at. Have a close look at the likes of Himmelberg etc.

Hopefully the lads in WA have got some more rabbits that they can pull out too Bully.

What a couple of days. Its play the kids time short term. Play Banks & Bauer this week. Ruck Miller & Balta.

Medium term, just got to try and get to finals, thats still the goal. Get everyone fit and firing then.

Longer term, I’d let Broad walk to WCE, get Fridge to Adelaide, shop Vlastuin, shop my boy Shorty. Do all this regardless of how the year goes. Get picks inside 40. Try and bundle up back into the first round.
Bolton and Pickett + swap of next year's first for second rounder to Wet Coke for first pick in this year's draft - Harley Reid. Start your rebuild from there.

Nah - just kiddin'.

If we had four picks between 20-50 you have to back Clarke to fix it. I'd be happy with that all things considered. You can get a decent tall forward in that range.

Is Clarke good with talls? I think that question is yet to be answered, I haven't seen much evidence to date he has a Larkey up the sleeve.

Early days BH but I really like Caddy and Curtin. Caddy has been playing some centre square minutes as well as key forward, Curtin is currently playing forward in the WA colts after being a dominant key back last year, Archie Reid is showing plenty and there is at least two tall Academy picks to go in the top 20. So far, I reckon it's looking pretty strong. Curtin is looking every bit a top 5 pick. Really keen to see him in the champs. So far, I reckon this draft crop is looking very good.
