2024 Richmond Coach

Watched Banks yesterday
Got a long way to go
Bit timid for my liking
He is a 2024 player

Not as timid as Houli and B Ellis were when they were at the same age and they did alright in the end.

couple more coaches have pulled out of the coaching process. Jaymie Graham and Troy Chaplin.
Mini will get this gig doing a Bradbury

This smacks of Dimma's appointment.

Bomber Thompson, Gary Liar and Buckley definitely ruled themselves out (maybe Roo's also? of the job when Dimma got it. It basically came down to Hinkely and Dimma for the role.

Rumours in SA are that Hinkley has a 2 year extension. 2024 as head coach.
2025 as a Snr Footy Advisor. Carr been told he'll be head coach in 25.
Has Port forgotten the mess the Maggies got into with those sorts of handshake deals.

It’s one of the biggest clubs in the land, Josh Carr is crazy.

Or.

It’s too big a job and those who know, know that the rebuild coach never makes it through to finals.
Or he has the Port gig sewn up.

So assumption that this port succession plan rumour is true.
Tredea releasing the rumour is classic PR, he must know something and preparing tge fanbase. It would be like Richo suggesting it on Talking Tigers.
Why has Port acted now? To get Carr locked in.
Why did Carr choose a gig (assuming he has) in his club in his hometown and which he's already invested in vs a 1 in 4 chance if a tigers gig?
Bird in his hand.

What makes you think he's got it? Inside information? Still got a couple of months to go.

The club is on the record that they want a coach by September. I reckon it will be announced in the week after our last game.

The word I have is that Carr didn't want the job while Chaplin and Graham didn't make the shortlist.

The shorlist appears to be:

Mini
Newy
Yze; and
Skipworth

Not a very impressive list to pick from.

We've not had the intensity since being beaten by the demons.
That was a blistering game and we gave it a decent crack.
Reckon the players have lost an edge and looking towards the end of the season.
That not on Mini

How many do we expect to be on the shortlist?
4? 5?
No surprises that Chaplin and Graham arent on it. Suspect theyve withdrawn under advisement.

Advised they are not on the shortlist.

Not moving to Vic period.
Misses got him to move back to SA and he defiantly isn't coming to us when he has been promised the port job.
If Hinkley fails again, he has got a job ready for him in his own back yard.

How can you come to that conclusion ?.Yze ton if experience and Skipworth highly rated .Newman I'm not sure on

As for Carr his believing his own hype to much his cv his nothing to rave about.

Thank god we are seeing this now, at least we can cross his name off the list, rather than find out round 4 next year, after we've given him a 3 year contract.
Surely the only positive (if there is any) we can get out of the last 2 weeks...

I wouldn’t read into coaches pulling out, it’s no confidence it’s after coaches were shortlisted on Friday. I think graham and Chaplin didn’t make the cut and it’s a no brainer for carr to accept the port coaching role if that rumour is true for 2025.

If we are to observe the following statements

1) that a rebuild is the only way to climb the mountain again

2) that rebuilding coaches rarely see out the journey

3) that the club is now acutely aware of items 1 and 2

then it is conceivable that Mini is viewed as the perfect rebuild coach. Cheap, competent and knows the players.

The carrot for Mini is if he trends upwards with each year of rebuild he might just survive.

Newman is an interesting prospect seeing as he's got tiger blood, former captain and had a few years at the Hawks to see what processes they've put in place to improve their list and results. Good to have someone who is not as close to the current players so should be willing to make the hard calls on retention and week to week selection. We've been gifting games to some premiership players who perhaps haven't deserved them based on recent form. Mini is possibly too close to the current group of ageing or out-of -form former stars.
