2024 Richmond Coach

Leppitsch (and likely others pulling out) is why our senior players shouldn't be endorsing Mini in the public.

If candidates believe he is close to across the line, or that it will be difficult for the club to go against the players wishes, they won't put their hand up and go through the stigma of missing out.

The club have done the right thing by getting an A grade panel and going through a thorough process.
Good call mate. I too have been surprised by how forthcoming the playing group has been.

It’s a good question but being an *smile* to reporters doesn’t help you out much.
That's how McCrae has become the media's love child....
Individually presses the flesh prior to cameras rolling apparently, to the point they've all become a bunch of sycophantic fan boys & girls.
Playing them all is Fly..... gees I hope it all turns to poo when it REALLY matters!

I wonder how hard will it be for the decision makers not to give the job to Mini. The players openly want him, been at the club 10 years, they would be friendly with him on a day to day basis and built a long standing relationship with him. If they don't give him the job in a way they're sacking him as surely he will move to another club if not made head coach. I feel it would be hard not to have bias towards him?

Not all that confident Josh Carr will apply I think Port will announce him as a succession coach if Hinkley is appointed. Other previous coaches saying they're not interested. I would be very surprised if Mini doesn't get the job

Yep. Leppa's out and I doubt Carr will apply. Leaving weaker candidates, I reckon we'll go through the formalities and then give Mini the job. Success is still in our face with him, so I don't know why we should risk breaking this culture and start all over again. Better to look for a new external coach when you fail as most clubs in the past have done. This is all similar to the Eade/Roos scenario where all the Swans players preferred Roos as coach, who turned out to be more successful than Eade.

Concerning that Mini has said Jack and Cotch can choose if they play on next year and the decision is solely theirs . I love both these legends of our club but that is poor from a potential new coach . Jack has been very poor for most of the year and is now keeping Ryan out . He does not run or chase anymore.Jack is a smart guy and should have called time already ! Mini giving the green light to play on is irresponsible .

This is why the players want him, so they can run the show. They decide what game plan they use and now they’re in charge of list management as well. I know I’m talking it to the enth degree but so far that’s what’s happened.

He said it to show respect for 2 great players of ours. Pressure is on them to decide. Same as what Dimma said about Duz doing as he wants. Very much doubt each player gets the same chance.

He's left it up to them, hasn't guaranteed them a game every week, in fact he can't really say anything else. He doesn't know if he'll be the coach next year. So it'd be irresponsible if he said anything to the contrary.

Too early to be concerned about it imo.

First mistake for andrew.

one day after jac saying the club is bigger than the individual, two warriors are singled out for special treatment.
who else is a warrior?....we had a few.

should have said 'out of my jurisdiction as caretaker coach...will be determined by consideration to form & list requirements by appointed coach & those involved '

@$15 g a game & the club's future at stake, it is never only the players decision.

I was thinking along the lines of what we do for Cotch and Jack we do for at least 6 other premiership heroes. Dangerous.

Mini said it. But do you think it's his decision? This would be in Blair Hartley's portfolio and I'm sure Mini is just repeating what our chosen narrative on this is.

Are we likely to know who has and hasn’t applied before the new coach is announced in September?

For the record I was really hoping for Dimma last time we went through this process, my gut feel was he was the right coach for us at the time and very happy when he was announced, in all honesty like many was seriously questioning the selection in 2016 but all’s well that ends well!

For what it’s worth feels like Carr is the right man this time, happy with Mini so far but almost feels like it’s a half coaching change hes has been around for so long and think new ideas and philosophies from outside the club is what we need (much like Dimma brought when he arrived).

Regardless happy to put my faith in the club and the selection committee to make the best decision on the applicants they have to consider
