2024 Richmond Coach

Yep generally awful & extremely costly.
A quick glance. Form your own opinions on this.

Goals/Behinds

Riewoldt 32.28
Bolton 31.29
Martin 25.22
Taranto 19.14
Baker 12.14
Graham 9.7
Cumberland 8.8
Cotchin 7.7
M Rioli 2.5

Ryan 12.5
Clarke 11.3
Mansell 10.5
Bauer 4.0
This is not a new thing. It’s costly and kills momentum. I think Teague is the forward coach. You’d think he would work on it.

Bad kicking is bad football. The analysis below
too simplistic but I bet we trail massively on expected score delta. Riewoldt Bolton martin Rioli and Cumberland missed too many easy ones this year. Cotchin had one great game but otherwise sucked as normal too.

This is paywalled but calls us out in opening paragraph.

It’s not just kicking in front of goal. We are the worst in the AFL for general kicking efficiency as well.

Rubbing salt into the wounds is the fact we’re number 1 for clangers and number 3 for turnovers.

Our general skill levels - particularity by foot - are killing us. We have too many guys that might try hard, and are even fan favourites for the fact, but simply don’t have the requisite execution of disposal skills.

We need upskilling big time. We’ve got too many triers or one asset types, and not enough players. Class is lacking.

I thought he was ball movement and X is the forwards coach
This is something that bewilders me.

Teague was in charge of the highest scoring forward line in the AFL last year - if it's successful, why change the coaches to other roles?

This is the time to remember AFL House turned the tables on our list build strategy by changing the rules.

Yze is the man. Announcement next week.
You better have this right Scoop Dog otherwise I’m gonna put you into the Dunces of Doom group. The failed prediction foes that you keep jousting with. Nobet Pays has your membership card ready and waiting !

Big difference between backing and passing on mail. This is what I’ve heard. Standing with it.

Fair call, but we’ve been slow to react.

Reckon we started to pivot back in the 2021 draft. The big 5 were all (maybe Banks excepted) very good kicks.

Whether they can all compete though is the bigger question mark. Sonsie top of the list.

And without competitiveness doesn't matter how nice by foot you are (as you know).

As an aside, reckon our lack of footspeed and thus inability to provide an easy option for the ball carrier is as big an issue for our ball retention as footskills.

It’s not so much in the draft that we’ve been slow to react (although I question Trezise’s foot skills) but re engineering the existing players. Making the hard calls on guys who brought us success under a Pre 2020 and no stand rule era but were gonna cause issues post.

Also, let’s be honest, despite their virtues, Hopper and Taranto don’t help in this regard either.
