2024 Richmond Coach

Reckon we started to pivot back in the 2021 draft. The big 5 were all (maybe Banks excepted) very good kicks.

Whether they can all compete though is the bigger question mark. Sonsie top of the list.

And without competitiveness doesn't matter how nice by foot you are (as you know).

As an aside, reckon our lack of footspeed and thus inability to provide an easy option for the ball carrier is as big an issue for our ball retention as footskills.
Being successful obviously weakens the draft hand but 5 picks under 30 shows they tried to address improving disposal needs relatively quickly. It’s going to take time to get skilled, elite juniors to senior football. Brown very encouraging. Bauer, Trezise & Coulthard look ok too as long shots.
Maybe the Hopper trade is a misstep. Time will tell.

It’s not about the draft.

Agree 100%, take your opportunities when you have them. Imagine if we improved our conversion rate just 10-15%.

Isn’t that a big thing from Choco Williams? He is right, practice guiding the bloody ball as close as possible to your foot. Best kicks in the game always did that, Robbie Flower, Mark Browning, Mark Bayes, David Rhys-Jones (he was deplorable to begin with but someone taillight him how to kick properly), Doug Hawkins, Leon Cameron to name few.
Yes, most modern players have been allowed to develop their own style which means they don't follow the goal-kicking basics:
1) lining the ball up along the thigh of the kicking leg (not the centre of the body),
2) keep it there in the run-up (don't wave it all around as many of them do),
3) head over the ball in run-up and guide it low onto your foot with the R hand for a R foot kick,
4) keep body bit forward when you kick it (don't lean back as too many do eg. King bros.)
5) follow through fully.
Eg. Lloyd, Hart, Lockett.
Simple.
P.S. Don't go changing your set shot routine to "kicking around corners" late in your career like Castagna, Bolton, Jack R., etc.

And for goodness sake "DO NOT SPIN THE BL00DY BALL IN YOUR HANDS WHEN YOU'RE ON THE RUN UP TO KICK"

Gawd that pi55es me off.

And pick a target behind the goals and kick it to that.

Nobets is excited at the prospect of having his adversary join. Bit like when Daisy Thomas joined the Blues, or when Le Bron joined Miami.
LeScoop is not taking his talents to the Dunces of Doom.

if Yze is the man im really pleased, his record as assistant coach is excellent and brings a new voice to the club which is what I think we need. No player favourites everyone fighting for a spot regardless of what previous output. Watching a few press conferences and comes across really well too. I’m excited for what is to come

Also stealing this from a poster on BF but if Yze is the man then we want dees to keep winning this final series so he gets even more experience with prelims and grand finals

True but I'm not wanting another dynasty team especially so close after our seemingly ended reign.
