How is Norwood the next best in SA for an AFL game?? I'd rather it was back at Football Park.

We were 3 rd in match attendance with 3 games less and many marvel games, the AFL admin is :poop:

View attachment 21035

We finished bottom 6, the Blues top 6 and they only topped us by 27K in home and away attendances, link below shows home and away only (finals don't count) plus blues played pies twice and got 80K+ on the 2nd meeting.

The AFL just gotta do the maths, had we played pies twice we finish second, or if we had made the 8 we would easily have finished second. We topped attendances in 2015, 2017, 2018 & 2021 and came 2nd in 2016 and 2019. Shouldve topped it again in 2019 but the Pies played the Bombers twice and we played GWS twice, reverse that fixture and we come out on top again. Pies get looked after like no other.

Richmond home game meaning we play them at the Dump later on. Are we gonna break the record of 7 or 8 interstate games??

The first team is simply listed in alphabetical order for all the clubs for the gather round fixture.
Home teams for each game in Gather Round will be confirmed when the full 2024 Toyota AFL Premiership Season fixture is released later this week.

We were listed first V swans in the RD 5 gather round and then played them again on the G as the home team, RD 17 on a Thursday night this year.

OK. I suppose only the Dumbourne and Bummers games are set as away then.

Hmm 110 metres wide. Ooze better deliver on the corridor game plan.
Under Dimma we would set a world record for out on the fulls.

They are neither home games nor away games. Every team has 11 home games and 11 away games (irrespective of their actual locations). Plus all teams have the Gather Round - 23 games in total. Which means Port and the crows get an extra game locally at home and the rest get one locally away.

Yes, there are 11 home and 11 away games but there will be a so-called home team named for the gather round as stated by the AFL.
Port and Crows home ground is AO, so in essence, they get an extra home game. The same would be said if gather round was played in NSW and Sydney Swans played at the SCG and Giants at Giants Stadium thats anothet home game in any which way you look at it.

I think we all know there are 11 home and 11 away games but there will be a home team named for the gather round as stipulated by the AFL. The home team wears their traditional home guernsey and shorts and if we are named as the home team, and if we are scheduled to play the Saints again it'll be at Marvel instead of the G.

Port and Crows home ground is AO, so they get an extra home game, plain and simple, there is no sugarcoating that.
This wasn’t the case last year, we got a home return game vs Sydney.

Really? ok, I recall some were saying last year that we were the away team. Checking the game highlights both Richmond and Sydney wore their traditional playing strip.
I guess it's just a belief if we are deemed as the home team in gather round, and if we happen to play the Saints again it's likely to be at Marvel and many of our supporters detest Marvel. But as you said it made no difference last year as we played Sydney at the G

We were named first everywhere. Scoring.. fixtures etc..

All it means is they have to have a home team to avoid jumper clashes.

Gws we’re also home team vs hawks in gather round but played them later in the year in Sydney.

Don’t get me wrong we will still get shafted and play saints at marvel, but gather round won’t have anything to do with it.

Can't really figure out what the AFL are up to here.
Why would you put a club, that I'm pretty sure had the highest non SA team, stand alone crowd of 42000+ last season..... at a ground holding 10k?
Is Brendon Gale now being punished for NOT taking the shitkickers job at HQ?

I think the last game we played them was their home at the boneyard

As @Ian4 said a couple of posts back, it is $ driving this.

And crowd numbers don't get you $.

TV ratings get you $.

Yeah as mentioned already, it is in alphabetical order the gather round fixture. The so-called home team isn't designated by who's name is first.

Well, both Richmond and Sydney wore their traditional plating strips (not away).

I hope we don't play them at Marvel, who knows maybe Yze has a plan on how to play that ground better.

Anyway, I guess it's all semantics what will be, will be.
