2024 Draft Thread

i have an uneasy caution for Sam Lalor as pick 1.
Having followed the Tigers for 60+ years, we have only had one Dustin Martin . ( don't argues et al).
To me the odds of replacing said Dustin Martin, within one season of him retiring, with a like for like seems an incredibly long shot.
I know nothing about Sam and hope he's a star, but for me lightning really would have to strike twice.

I think these phantoms tell us a few things. Without much exception:

Port, GWS are taking talls.
North, Melbourne, St Kilda all potentially up for Tauru.

Richmond either luck into Tauru or need to take a tall at our 3/4th pick unless we want to cede first choice.
We look to be taking multiple talls, potentially including a ruck.

With regards to Twomey's house of sticks..
I'd probably prefer one of Lalor/FoS coupled with Smith/Langford, but if the club rate Smillie and the other two are gone, I'd back them.
I dont buy this bias rubbish. Our whole recruiting team and coach have sat together over a long weekend and agreed a ranking. It's too amateurish Blair just picks the local kid and brainwashes everyone around the table to agree with him - even with Toce's notes etc.

Our later picks: we seem to value kicking skills, leadership and competitiveness/hardness in our smalls. Given we have some young fellas who can play HBF or Winga already, I'm happy to get Lindsay's versatility and class if he drops to our picks over a Travaglia.

Also see the media (well the one's that matter) are now cottoning onto the limitations of Armstrong.

Twomey has him going at 16 (including bids) but suggesting he could get through to our pick 18 (or wherever it lands - 21 or so).

Been strong all year (and probably bored everyone) that despite most phantoms having him well inside 10, we shouldn't be taking him with anything early on.

Suspect starting to get out near where clubs have had him ranked all year.

Why do we "need" to take a tall at 10/11?

Also don't think (and hope) we take too many talls. 2 at absolute most. Be very very surprised if we take more than that.

Yeah, absolutely Jack.

Hope we don't go tall at 10 or 11 either (unless Viking somehow gets through).

We have too many holes in our midfield and overall running ability to plug to be taking talls there when that talent (some of Lindsay, Travaglia, Berry, Allan etc will be there).
That *smile* Blofeld was always sweating Tauru at #5. And SOS can never pass up a fellow disco king. Does he have a little dance with his recruits? SRSLY vain man. Anyways Tauru will never get through to us, brother.

I can make a case for any of the talls in this draft but only Tauru presents as a possible elite. Or even above average. So why rush? And Duff-Tytler might be around for us next year.

As for holes, we don't have a team. We can just take everything. The mids are potential elite and so are the small forwards. I'm with you. Let's get sum. And I think RFC seems to be of that mind.

Yeah reckon the recent "hot" talk from inside Melbourne of Taylor wanting Viking 5 was all smokescreen.

It was planted (just like he did with Kako at 9) to dissuade North from swapping 2 with us for 6 and thinking they still get Tauru.

Trade doesnt go through and North keeping that earlier pick and take The Viking.

Means a better chance one of the top shelf mids then gets through to 5.

He's linked us to Lindsay. I wonder why. Allan was a moral if he got to us, wasn't he? A moral, I'd have thought. Lindsay, eh. Interesting. I like Lindsay so I think that might be good if it's right.

It was:

Lalor
Smillie
Allan
Probably a tall

Now it's:

Lalor
Smillie
Lindsay? Says Cal with Allan off the board.
Probably a tall - Shanahan, says Cal.

We have been linked to Whitlocks in the past. We think Alger is in our sights, don't we? Trainor seems odd to me but who knows? Dattoli. Dunno.
Probably a tall.
But dont we get them at 18 & 20?
So either we rate JW (or McShane Hanrahan like whatevs). Or he doesnt know that the fix is on. 11 for Ports 13.
Its on baby

Oh, yeah, Bryan. He was trying to *smile* RFC's bid. We were the target. Totally *smile* us. Dog *frown*. We should send somebody in to blow up his island lair and set fire to his cat. FOS? We can't! Blofeld has foiled that. He is a genius.

Lalor wears #4, idolises Dusty, is same height as Dusty, loves the dont argue, is a great one on one mark in the forward line and loves to take the game on
The footy gods are telling us something and we must listen
Pick Lalor with our 1 pick

I'm pivoting, Dell. I did think we'd probably take a tall at 10 or 11. And had no great interest in one or other of a few talls.

But yeah, I could have it wrong - there could be a trade and a move into a particular tall, say Gough Whitlam sr.

Id love us to get Hynes, gives a bit of mongrel which I think is always important to have on field
To me he plays like Stringer. Arrogant and dominant.

Not intending to suggest he is a similar personality. But the football description is a positive

Finish reading the rest of the sentence Leysy, it'll answer the question. Geeze, first grammar, now comprehension. :-D

We've got Lynch, Nankervis in the over 30 group. Reiwoldt hasn't been replaced either - we do have LOTS of irons in the fire, but mostly long shots. If we were playing the statistics, another tall wouldnt hurt.
I'd be against taking two forwards over 200cm though. Unless they have exposed form at a very high level, they're usually the highest risk imo.

Broad, Vlaustin also in the over 30's. We're banking on Trezise and Brown succeeding as replacements.

Not Trainor though. High risk, high reward. I'm not taking that on top of Lalor etc.

I agree.

North are stacked with midfielders and hybrids after previous drafts and this years trade period.

They desperately need talls to complement their list.

I reckon they will accept 6 and 23 for pick 2. They are mad if they don’t. Gives them Tauru and Trainor/Whitlock I would imagine.

As for us, if that occurs, I hope we go.

1. Lalor
2. FOS
10. Lindsay
11. Berry
18. Faull
20. Hynes
24. Dattoli

That’s my Xmas wish list anyway.
We won’t need to get rid of pick 6.

I've never see even the remotest resemblance between Sam Lalor and Dustin Martin, PR64. I compare Sam Lalor to both Andrew and Darren.

Bengal has watched Lalor for years and compares Sam Lalor to Jimmy Bartel. Bengal is probably pretty near the money. He's the most informed.

Dustin Martin? Don't reckon.

I get better information from PRE than I do from media. Bengal. Nailed the whole Lalor thing months ago. Compares him to Jimmy Bartel.
