2024 Draft Thread

One trade I’ve seen elsewhere, but not mentioned on here is with GWS - 10/11 & 23 for 15 & 16. The thinking with this is that there’s someone GWS really like (might have been Travalgia) who won’t make it through to their picks. We’re then in the perfect position to pick Lindsay or Allan with 10/11 and then Berry and our preferred tall (Whitlock/Faull or maybe Shanahan) at 15/16.
Doesn't make sense
We have 10 and 11 and 23
Why would we want 15 & 16.

At 10/11 I'd like 2 of Lindsay, Reid and Berry. Berry's probably still there if we do that Port swap.

Would WCE trade 12 for 20 and Port's 29, and then we use 12 on Jack Whitlock?

Lalor, Smillie/Tauru, Lindsay, Murphy/Berry and Whitlock, with picks 18, 23 and 24 to come.
I reckon Reid and Derry are right on our radar here, TBH. (It looks like Allan is gone. He was a lock IMO.) Mr Chips is linking RFC to Derry. And Reid is doing the rounds.

Lindsay surprises me but Allan to MFC surprises me. Not that it should. I just hadn't factored it yet. So, I reckon you might get your wish.

I think we're holding our cards atm. I'm not sure we're in love with any particular Whitlock or Faull. And it seems perhaps not with Armstrong. So if that's the case we take who's left after we stock up on smalls with our first four picks.

I don't think we'll do any trading up until the night and even then probably not. The smart play with all of our cards is to dangle them.

Just on my opinions, this has been called a midfielders draft for some time. And latterly a talls draft. But it was always a small forwards draft. I'd take most of them.

Can someone in the know please tell me if we’ve committed to Colina in the rookie draft, does this mean we can only take a maximum of 7 players or am I mistaken? The thought of missing out on a quality kid due to bringing back Colina doesn’t sit well with me.

Colina is a cat b rookie and has nothing to do with what senior list draft picks we take on Wednesday night.

In effect 11 would drop to 15 and 23 would rise to 16. So 3 picks between 10 and 16 instead of 10 and 23. Possibly makes sense if you believe your #11 preference will still be there at #16 and your #23 preference won't make it to there but will at #16.

This young Harrison Oliver. He's a good little footballer. Gee, given time, you'd like to replace Short with this kid.

It will need AFL approval to remain a Cat B. I doubt it would be approved so yes it would mean a rookie spot. Club hasn't ready made it clear yet. I am of the same view as you if not a Cat B but we've said we will give him a spot. Won't affect 8 draft picks, others have said we have 10 spots (excludes Cat B).

I was under the impression we are promoting Young to our senior list, leaving a spot on our rookie list for Colina. This is due to Colina already spending the maximum time as a Cat B. I really hope you’re right and we have the 8 picks.

Good shout. Add Cooper Hynes as one we might want to sneak ahead of a couple and take.

we had to upgrade 1 off the rookie list as we had 7 which is 1 too many

I’m thinking we’re looking at Berry at #11.

If Lindsay’s there at #10 I’d take him but I dunno about RFC. He hasn’t been linked to us in anything I’ve come across so far but Allan was never linked to Melbourne.

Suppose we use 10-11 on smalls.

Twomey is linking us to Sims in his article. (We calling him “Dim”?) We may hit a tall or two at 18 on. Faull? Sims?

Whitlocks? I was thinking they’d go in the early teens but looks like that’s wrong.

We still need this Norfs thing to play out. Norfs should hang out until the pick. Will they have the stones?

Yeah, absolutely Jack.

Hope we don't go tall at 10 or 11 either (unless Viking somehow gets through).

We have too many holes in our midfield and overall running ability to plug to be taking talls there when that talent (some of Lindsay, Travaglia, Berry, Allan etc will be there).

As you rightly suggest this is a draft for mids & smalls, 10 & 11 surely goes that way. But I daresay the case for Tauru at 6 becomes much stronger under such circumstances, taking the best key position prospect along with 3 smalls means we only really need a Whitlock to meet our tall requirements for this draft. One doesn't have to fall for Faull if they think there are better opportunities elsewhere. That might also open the door for a tilt at Dodson as well, I think now would be a good time to get an apprentice ruckman.
