2024 Draft Thread

What is we target

Dusty was somewhat fanatical about football from a young age. Lalor has been around professional sport for a few years and his fitness is an issue? That would be somewhat of a concern to me.
Think that’s been answered ad nauseam.
Cricket and injuries.
Nowhere to hide in a professional environment. It will be sink or swim.

Is Lalor hungry as he loves his cricket and it has been his main focus.
He's chosen footy, so I'd say he's ready.

That Foxfooty article was a good read if you haven't taken the time yet. Probably been a little bit of a coaster due to lack of time to change and because of his natural talents. Seems like he's eager to succeed though. Hungry? Not for donuts.

If we take Lalor I really hope we can still land Jagga. He's plug and play and will captain a side one day.
North will take the Viking at 2 and a big chance Melbourne will take Armstrong at 5. Adelaide rumoured to be undecided on Draper or Langford. Carlton will take FOS.

Smith is a good chance to be around at 6 but will we take him if he is?

I think RFC is getting some concrete information on who's taking whom.

Initially I was thinking that RFC wanted Lalor, FOS, maybe Langford. I'm pretty confident that we are hooked on three players. Lalor, FOS and player X and have been for some time. I think player X is Smillie.

Once RFC establishes that Player X will get through to #6 we don't have to trade for #2. We're getting two of our three just by keeping our cards.

Say we know Allan will be there at 10/11 and we are getting intel that Taylor and SOS are not taking Armstrong. If so we'd be talking to/about them if we are interested. And Twomey would get word. @Redford has posted above that Twomey does have word.

RFC takes Lalor, Player X (say Smillie), Armstrong, Allan. Not a bad haul. And so we sweat NMFC. 10+18 is all we have to offer. Maybe 10+24.

If we knew Player X was going to Melbourne at #5 I think we'd hit harder at #2. Maybe we will.

Picks 5-10 are starting to get out.

Petracca took a whilst to develop because he was lazy and subsequently overweight for the first few seasons. So much so that he was probably gettable if another club wanted him bad enough. And then the penny dropped and he got serious.
Doubt it was so much laziness in Peetracca's early days. Most of the youngsters take a year or 3 to firstly fully understand the requirements of professional athlete fitness and the dietry regimens that coincide. Also takes that few years for the body to physically mature to the requirements as well. Didn't Peetracca also break a big toe or something in one of his early summers messing around n playing some social or suburban soccer comp in his spare time?

Interesting, scuttlebutt, Sin. I have only been able to link Adelaide to Smith to date. Langford and Draper, eh. Logical types. If Ogilvie doesn't take Smith it raises the big question as you point out. It's the elephant in the room.

Who's linking Armstrong to Taylor? Is there mail or scuttlebutt? I can't get anything. Lindsay and Reid are names floating around at 5, 7-9.

Blair might have to learn how to do 'eeny meeny miny moe....'

May be we could get the main ones we want @ #1 to play a game of Rock Paper Scissors. Get it televised like a paid Main Event on Fox

Takes the decision out of our hands and the bonus is the last one standing is a proven winner

Lalor will go 1 and I’m hoping Langford will be there at 6.FOS and Smith go alright but don’t have any hurt factor.

Carlton will take FOS

Tell you what, you're like Hercule Poirot the last 4 weeks. Or something out of Cluedo. Mr Taylor with a pick 9 Armstrong in the kitchen. Or Mr Ogilvie with a Smith in the bathroom. Or could it be Mr Rawlings with a trade down in the study ?

Bloody hell that was an impressive interview with Jags. Super smart kid. Really thinks about his football, you can tell. Very funny too. 18 going on 30 mentally.

FOS and Jags still 1-2 for me.
Hard to see how he isn't in a leadership group by 22. Sounds like he has already played a 100 games. Hard to remember a better spoken kid combined with a better resume. Again, not sure I've seen a safer 200 gamer.
