2024 Draft Thread

Anybody going to do a Phase 1 Mock draft here

Need something to keep an interest in
Go over to the thread, turk-d. You have to do one. Leysy has done his. Dev has done one. Spook's put one up. Bully is still putting his together. I see you've noted that.

At least he will compete. I'd like to see his testing results, he looks football smart but slightly slow.

I reckon 15-30 is his range.
Yeah l was thinking 18 -23 he should be in the mix .
I don't rate the depth of this draft as many do,after the second round it get's iffy ,even the second round is a bit mixed .
I think we are underrating the tall KP forwards on here,a few may go earlier than expected.

23 Bungal. You bewdy! For you. Boooo for me.

Agree with the depth comment on a general level or, at least the number of players that will be a success. I think it's being badly overrated in that respect. There will be a lot of clubs getting burnt in this draft due to the unpredictability.

There'll be winners, but they'll be spotted out along a looong line of players. Which ones and where, is a bit of a lottery this year. Hopefully we have the winning numbers.

It's not a "super draft" as much as that it's a very broad but uncertain one.

Risk of re-doing an ACL is around 20% for athletes. Even with 8 picks in the first two rounds I’d be very reluctant to take that kind of chance given the current state of our list.
Especially as we will be taking a bit of a risk with the bloke we take at 1, if the PRE pundits are correct.

I really like him but it is a bit weird how Lalor is being touted as pick 1 by the media after such a serious hamstring injury.
His popularity seems to have grown since that unfortunate event. That's odd.
Credit to Bengal though he's liked him from way out.

Has his popularity only grown with media/supporters because word from clubs (us) ranking him very high is getting out?

That is generally the case with guys that rise after actual football has finished.

Maybe. I still find it strange given the serious nature of the injury. Perhaps it's a smokescreen for the real target?
Let's not forget either that we never got him down to our VFL program.
Time will tell.

Not sure the comparison between Travaglia and Lindsay is needed anyway TBH.

Lindsay is way more mid at this stage, was excellent when in their late in the year. Better kick as well.

Travaglia runs harder, competes harder (no knock on Lindsay) and better overhead.

Very different footballers, who will have different roles.
But there's some chance we trade pick 10, therefore you have to pick one of Travaglia or Lindsay. No fence sitting Lazy Days.

In the same way Jagga is suddenly out of the conversation despite having the best year of anyone in the draft class.

Cant remember but there was a reason why we couldn't get him down
Im sure Bengal can tell us why

I was thinking a Toby Greene,Jaime Elliott type,he is a good player with all the skills .
Is he that good in the air?
Both those players you mentioned are very strong in that area. Makes them elite small forwards.
Also Budweiser is cats *smile* no matter which country it’s made in. You should be embarrassed

It was definitely reported We tried to get Lalor and Smillie to play VFL but it didn't work out, can't remember the reason, probably injury with Lalor.

I'm almost swinging back to him Scoop, the stats are breaking new ground for a junior - averaging 28 touches in the VFL, hitting 40 possessions & then 50 possessions is like Brian Lara coming back and reclaiming his Test batting record. Clearance numbers are elite and I even think there's upside once his upper body fills out some more. He's bluechip, I'd be happy to have him as one of our first 2 picks.

I see Jagga as our Cotchy replacement- elite captain material that will just keep winning the ball back and by shear force willing the team on to win.

He is my No 1 pick, safe as houses and will become our new leader of the midlfield. If we can pull of a Jagga with a Lalor or FOS combo I will be ecstatic.

I've never had him out of the discussion. It's a clear top three and I'm ok with all of them, no glaring weaknesses and vastly differnet skill sets. I'm ok with Lalor because I think he has the best mix but if we called Jags, I'm fine, same with FOS.
