2024 Draft Thread

Don't see why not.
His game time had been all over the place. Mostly defence. Then a split between forward and midfield it seems.

Can you go over there and do a beep test, 2klm and 10klm with him. Not you actually doing it - you’d end up in hospital - but with a stopwatch and clip pad.

Thanks.

If we want a big beast mid this draft, let's get Bo Allan. Quicker and better overhead than Guy Smillie. Will need a second top-10 pick I reckon, so might be hard unless we lose Baker.

Vontae O'Cotchin and Bo CallahAllan.
I'm picking up what you're putting down with Allan. It's Smillie or FOS at the top end so we get one shot at him and we need the spread desperately. It's Jagga or FOS.

We might need to call him Bo-tempelli Allen after we take him with the Baker pick or the Crows/Carlton/Gold Coast pick.

Is that who you see with him? That would be awesome. Is he quick? Acceleration? Maybe a similar type to Will Day too?

Yes pls Allan looks fantastic. Great hands, rangy powerful type who will fill out beaufiully. Yes yes yes.

Perhaps that's the only time you've seen him play this year because he has been killing it. I've seen every game of the Dockers and he is a gun in the making. Vice like hands. Beautiful kick. Smashes packs. Gets right up the ground. We'd be overjoyed to have him considering our KPF stocks right now.
No way would they release him, perhaps if the got logan Mac a chance

Taking names away, the conversation on the "type" of midfielder we need at our first pick is interesting.

Leysy's 2c:

Those elite big, strong midfield "bulls" that can win the ball at stoppage, break tackles with a combination of raw power and burst are absolute gold.

Think recent number 1 picks - Reid, Horne-Francis, Rowell etc. Before them - Dusty, Petracca, Bont, Danger.

They are, and even moreso in future, will be the real game changers.

But they are hard to get for a reason. Reckon that is the "type" we should be targetting if there is one at the pointy end.

Can Smillie be that player? Can he be as explosive as the above? Some seem to be strong No's on here. Am not convinced he can't yet. Reckon he needs to get a little more selfish and back himself in to break lines more.

Could Lalor? Could Allen?

Interesting watch as the year goes on.

Bit harsh there Leysy. Reckon you've left a couple of blokes off your list. No KMart Dusty, no NQR Dusty package, Colonwood n Essendrugs supporters would be disappointed in your evaluation.

Yeah that's why I'm a fan of Allan, and Lalor.

And we should be in the ball park for one of them with our second first round pick.

For all of Port Pera's problems, the mix of JHF, Butters and Rozzee is perfect. Finn O'Sullivan and Jagga Smith fill the Butters and Rozzee type and Lalor/Allan/Smille are all the JHF's. We should be able to get some form of the two in this draft.

And I'm starting to think Xavier Lindsay as a second rounder as well. Taj Hotton will be gone.

A lot more names getting thrown around now as good players which is great to see. I think if Graham and Baker leave we'll be looking for 5-6 within 35, with 2 of them top 10

Lindsay in the second round would be a bargain I reckon.

If we can get FOS and one of Allan/Lalor/Smith/Hotton plus Lindsay, that's a great result. Might be able to get someone like Hyne with a second-rounder also.

That kid was able to perform with a broken leg. Exactly the type we need.

Interesting to see where they finish up at the end of the year.

If we have confidence either of them (plus Smilie) will end up being that inside out beast, that bursts and breaks tackles rivalling the guys mentioned - That should be our number 1 pick ILO.

i guess it is figuring out if he will be a JHF/Reid type, or a Cripps/Wines type. the 2nd pair are very good footballers, and can help teams win, but they are not what we need alongside Taranto and Hopper.
JHF/Reid types can play alongside anyone.

Totally out on Moraes. Kicks it like a sack of spuds. Butcher by foot. Creative by hand. Good in traffic. Sound familiar? It's the Thomposn Dow profile. Fool me once....

Jagga Smith, warming even more to him. Does something I love at stoppages, is always on his toes, bouncy, ready to explode. And doesn't kick or handball to the last minute, will take contact to give his teammate that extra second to get free, the Chimp was one of the best at that. Mom runs the catering for the MCC and the family has a great relationship with many AFL clubs. Good family.

agree.

seniors invariably play like they did as juniors, and we need what Jagga Smith has.

really a no brainer for me.

Except Finn O’Sullivan does it too, and everything else, better than Jagga. Also has the Chad Warner sidestep and take the hole. He's our man. Then Bo, then Jagga.

Glad to see you're off Moraes, @Scoop
Hope the bloke describing him as a freak doesn't work for Richmond
