Smillie will most likely be a good player, but he won’t realise his full potential I don’t think with us, and we don’t need his type either. He’s more likely to be successful at a club that lacks big bodied mids. We’ve already got enough of them. Another would make us more unbalanced than we already are, and leave us with an ongoing and critical gap. Still.

We can’t afford to do that in this Draft with such a loaded hand.

We need a bit of everything going forward but watching that game last night we had Campbell Daniel and Moz as the only players with any pace at all and Moz ain't that quick. Premium pace and skill should be no. 1 priority at every draft really. But unfortunately we have virtually zero ability to win the pill out of guts either.

Yep.We have his type covered.
Hopper/Graham/Young Mc.

Nope. If you didn’t gather from tonight that we have a massive gap in our midfield stocks where speed and execution are concerned, I dunno what would prove that to you.

Hopper, Taranto, McAuliffe. That’s enough heavyyh mids for the next few years. Let’s get some burst, carry and delivery going.

The modern game demands it more than ever.
Nailed it.
We won our fair share of first possession. We won plenty of centre clearances.
Each clearance to the doggies and they ran away and we couldnt hold em or keep up.

If we want a big beast mid this draft, let's get Bo Allan. Quicker and better overhead than Guy Smillie. Will need a second top-10 pick I reckon, so might be hard unless we lose Baker.

Vontae O'Cotchin and Bo CallahAllan.

He's not quick.

He's not Tom Green. But would I pass up Green for Cotchin? *smile* yeah I would.

Put Guy Smillie and FInn O'Sullivan five metres apart and drop a football dead between them. Do it 10 times. Five times Finn will get it. Of those, twice he will step Guy without a finger on him and lace-out a forward. Three times Guy will get a hand on him but he'll still get an effective disposal to a teammate in space. Three times Guy will get the ball. Once he will break free. Twice he will get away a disposal under pressure. Twice there will be a stalemate.

Kick the ball towards the pair in the air. Ten times. Five times the 182cm Finn will mark it. Twice the 194cm Guy will. The others they'll spoil each other.

Finn will kick the goal. When you need him to. Guy might. Sometimes.

Finn's a better footballer. He hasn't had the chance to show it yet this year, but he is.
Not disagreeing with the the type of player we need.

However there is still a long way to go before we discount Smillie as the type we need.

Last weeks outing showed he has the ability to be the inside/outside player we are desperately needing.

Bruz. I'm not saying he won't be good. I'm saying O'Sullivan will be better.

What’s the issue with O’Sullivan?
He broke his thumb in the first quarter of R1 and still had 15 disposals and 6 clearances in less than a half. Guy Smillie had 4 clearances for the game.

Think he played a school game then played for the Academy v Footscray, mainly forward due to being underone, showed his quality. Now has a broken finger.

If Baker goes and we end up with 3 picks under 20
,we need nab a Petrecca/Bompmytelly type and a Naughton type.
Ball winner and contested mark beast

Great thread everyone. If we can get 4 elite talents over the next 2 years we could be well placed.

We have 2 elite picks with our finishing position. Should be a bottom 4 position this year and next.

2, 22, 30, 40, 41, 48, 58, 67, 69 Baker could fetch 10 and 25 from Fremantle

The trick is turning the above picks and next yea r1, r2 into 4 top 5 picks.

Does he have brittle bones? Needs to drink more milk.
