2023 mid-season rookie draft

Yep we've drafted really badly over the last decade:unsure::unsure:

3 flags since 2017, with many of our players from late draft & rookie picks.

I think I'll trust our footy department to make list management decisions, thanks very much. They've done the research

But I've read some mock drafts and watched highlights on ALF.com, so

I've come around on the Coulthard selection, while I believe a key tall was a need, so too was a small forward.
Plus I really really hope that Port were wanting to select him, I suspect they did.

gee Leon - chill man.

All I am saying was - from the outside, without knowing what the club is trying to build, it is really hard to comment. Like 2016, I am really confused with the recruiting strategy, but I accept I don’t have all the info. I would love to have the King brothers running around in tiger colours, but the mid season draft is unlikely to solve that piece of the puzzle.

Just cause Sydney picked up a player after our pick, doesn’t mean that our pick was wrong - time will tell as with most things in life, just ask BRS.
Fine then. I'm totally reassured. We're going great and are loaded with promising KPFs. This year is just a write-off. From the outside only that is.
So I'm really chilled now. (y)

Yes, how dare anyone hazard an opinion? As if our footy department are mere mortals like us fans - having feelings, opinions and judgments - getting some things right ... and some wrong! No, of course not. They're infallible ... just like the Pope.

Not sure why you'd bother coming on PRE then, because it's saturated with opinions. Should stick to club and AFL websites for all that indisputable information.
Maybe you can live in our wonderful past 2017 - 2020, not caring if we win or lose current matches and drop to near the bottom. But why bother even taking any notice when you can sit home and replay the tapes.
Yer, I am suitably chastened - because our footy department has never got anything wrong! Thinking for yourself is so rebellious.

Is this what you come up with when you cannot actually come up with any ideas or counter-arguments?
A 3-word sarcastic slogan on repeat.

I'm just overwhelmed by such a response.:sleep::sleep:

Don't take it personally.

You're welcome to your opinion, same as me & everyone else.

What I said Leon was that watching our games in recent times we were screaming out for a true crumbling forward. Yes we bomb it long, and yes we have our opposition take a lot of intercept and uncontested marks but a lot of times the ball hits the ground and we have had nothing, it has been far too easy to take the ball out of our defensive 50.

Whether we need David Coulthard I don’t know but we sure as hell need someone.

I’m not sure we lost small forwards to hubris. You can question what we got for them and that’s fair enough but butler lost his place to Bolton in 2019 (and I am sure that was the correct decision) and wanted to get a game elsewhere. Higgins cracked the sads whilst he was still contracted in 2020 because he was in and out of the team and on form at the time that was also a correct decision. Stengle was ok with us but wasn’t a stand out at vfl level and it was hardly a surprise when he left to get a game elsewhere as he was well down the pecking order.
Respectfully disagree on most of this, Sin. You avoid my major point that we have a queue of SFs lined up on the list as cited. They are just not ready yet or not good enough, because the club lacked forethought in retaining young stars in or coming into their prime by wayward list management, so we are now suffering from that self-induced gap/lag in development and performance.
However, Butler and Higgins - how many games played, goals kicked in the meantime?

Selecting another one, who will probably take another couple of years to make the grade if at all, the highest priority with our blatant deficit in KPFs on the eve of JR's finish? Have to agree to differ.

Nah, not at all personal. I just didn't think you had an opinion. Just whatever the club does or says ... no questions asked. Whatever.

I have an opinion, I just don't write multiple posts regurgitating it time & time again.

Would I have liked to get a big forward in the recent rookie draft, sure. But I along with most others on this site have no idea what the clubs strategy is. We're not in the know as to what they have in the pipeline.

As such I'll accept that they know more than I do.

Well, if that isn't laying on the sarcasm with a trowel when a toothbrush of it would've done I don't know what is. Harsh man.

Coulthard gets #26, Trezise gets #36. Should've told Colina to pack his bags and hand over the #39 to Coulthard.

I didn’t ignore anything Leon. I think it would best to read what I actually posted at the start of this exchange because my post wasn’t about the wisdom of selecting Coulthard or not.

“When the ball comes to ground we are not dangerous at all, we are slow and crying out for a good crumbing forward. Whether Coulthard is the answer, or we will be better with Moju back or maybe Campbell when he is fit, I have no idea.

But we really need a crumbing small forward”

I think I was pretty clear at the end that I had no idea whether he was the answer or whether the guys we have are the answer. I wasn’t commenting on the wisdom of picking him or not picking someone else, I was just making the point we need a small forward in our team.

I also said earlier in that post that we need KPFs as well, which we do.

As for losing Butler, Higgins and Stengle I think I made my point. Your prerogative whether you agree or not.

Cheers, go tigers

Buller - last player taken and was passed by swans and Freo (even though he is from WA). But experts on here reckon we should have taken him over others.

Well said. Hopefully Leon will give it a rest now, he has bored us all senseless with his rant. We can all carry on as much as we like but will it change anything, of course not. At the end of the day we replaced a small and a running defender with the same type of players. If himmelberg comes and we draft a tall kid at the draft then all good. It is only 5 months to wait Leon so relax and get behind our new recruits.
